The mission of the US Southern Colonies project is to add and improve profiles of early and significant US Southern Colonists - Colonial Americans who lived in what is now the southern part of the United States of America. Project members take primary responsibility for relevant profiles or family groups and work on merging duplicates, cleaning up profiles, adding sources, and removing incorrect information.

Please post here if you would like to join.  Here is our project to page:

Well, Geez Paula, probably the only project you're leading that I haven't attempted to jump in with both feet then asked how cold is the water. Ya know I luv ya and would follow you to the ends of the earth, and you know I'll be in the midst of it anyway, but I really have my hands full right now.

Forget the waders, I have full body diving suits Wikitree.

Oh yeah, we have worked on several colonists.
Thanks for the kind words!  I didn't know you didn't have a badge! For all the work you have done, you certainly should have one!
But my OCD/ADD allows me to start but prevents me from reaching a finish line!

BTW, just how deep is that water?
Don't worry, Cousin! I have lifeguard training!
Paula, I would like to join the US Southern Colonies Project. I have many ancestors in Maryland.
Hello - I have many colonial ancestors in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and probably Georgia during the colonial period.  I would like to join this project, please.
Hi Paula,

I would like to join the US Southern Colonies Project, please add me! I have ancestors that were a part of the colonial history of America, and would love to help preserve it here on wikitree with you all.

Thank you!

Jacqueli
You’ve been added! Welcome to the project! Don’t forget to join our Google Group!
I would love to join the project. I have ancestral lines running all over the place. My family tree runs from Virginia to Alabama and Florida with stops everywhere in between. I am a Beck,Fuller, Jordan, McIntosh,as in Chief William McIntosh of the Original Creek Nation, Pate descendant. That is a beginning,at least.
And Lynette, I'll throw in the life jacket,

I mainly work on North Carolina, but go where needed.
Well Cuz Cheryl, even tho we haven't made a cuz connection yet... I've been all over the map myself here.  Just keep it handy, right now I found some stones to stand on.
Hi Paula,

My 14 th. great grand parents were Mary Towneley and Augustine Warner and would really like to join your project .

Thanks,

Harold A. Townley
Hello, I would like to join. I have traced ancestors all the way back to Jamestowne colony and have many lines in Maryland, Virgina/West Virginia, and Kentucky on my paternal side, and North Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi on my maternal side.
Being the 9G Grandson of John Clarke, I'd love to be part of this.

Thank you,

Jeff
Absolutely! Anne asked Southern Colonies to take over the PM but I am happy to have the current PMs watch over it for us!
I would like to join the Southern Colonies project. Several of my family lines trace all the way back to Jamestown, others trace to South Carolina. They merge with descendants of Puritans from New England in Missouri in the 1800s. Quite a mix. I will be doing a lot of work on several family line pages from the Southern colonies and certainly want to join the discussions. Thanks. Gary Taylor, Houston Texas.
I would love to join the Southern Colonies Project!  I have ancestors from the Virginia Colonies!

Thanks,

Annetta Cornelius Parrigan
I thought I had already asked but I'd like to be a part of this project. I'm already part of the Google group.
Being from Kentucky I would love to join the southern colonies project!
I would like to join this project. Almost all of my ancestors landed in Virginia Colony or North Carolina in the 1600s-1700s.
I would also like to join this project. I have several family lines presently going back to colonial Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolinas.
Please allow me to join this project.  I am truly a Southern descendent.  I have oodles of relatives to add to the project.  I just discovered the project when attempting to add some relatives.  However, they are protected and therefore, cannot be connected.  I would love to help in this endeavor.
Hello, I would like to be added to this project. I have a number of ancestors from colonial Maryland who were later in [West] Virginia. Also, Maryland > Delaware > North Carolina and beyond.

Also: is there any possibility of adding Delaware to the Southern States project? You probably don't want to expand your scope any more. But, parts of Sussex County, Delaware were originally parts of Maryland (Somerset/Worcester Counties) or Virginia (Accomack County) and many lower Delaware settlers came via Maryland.

Or, is there a Delaware-related project that I could join which would allow me to work on pre 1700 people from Delaware?  Many thanks.

Look at our project page and the first thing you will see is a large map. Everything that falls on that map is covered by the project. That is how it was originally set up. Even though there are no subprojects for the Middle Colonies, the project manages the categories for the middle colonies ship lists.

I would like to join.  Live in Virginia.
I would very much like to join.
I would like to be a part of the US Southern Colonies Project.  Nearly all of my ancestors are from Virginia and North Carolina pre 1700s.
I would like to join the project as I have many ancestors from Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina. Lucky me :)
Please allow me to join this project. Every ancestor I have ever found was here before the Revolution, and all ended up below the Mason-Dixon Line. Thank you.
I would like to participate in this project, my ancestors landed in Virginia ---->NC ----> SC ----> GA.
Hello, I would like to be added to this project. My ancestors were from Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
I would be most pleased to be part of this worthy project. My gateway ancestors run all through the Maryland Colony and the Virginia Settlement Plantations.
I would like to join the US Southern Project, as I have many ancestors that lived in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
I would like to join the US Southern Colonies project, I have several ancestors from VA and SC colonies.
I would like to join. I believe I have many ancestors from the Southern Colonies.
I would love to join your project. I have multiple families related to the colonies.
I would like to join the Southern Colonies project. The majority of my ancestors are from North Carolina and Virginia.
I would very much like to join as I have ancestors from Virginia and South Carolina. Thanks.
I would certainly like to participate in this project and help in any way that I can.  I have a number of family lines that were in the Southern US during the 17th and early 18th century.
I would like to join this project. My living relatives are in Georgia and Alabama, but ancestors migrated Southward from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, etc., since as far back as the 17th century. I have potential information I'd especially like to verify about my earliest Wilson ancestor who -- I think -- immigrated to Virginia in the 17th Century. I also would like to gather information about my paternal grandmother's family, surname Herren.
Hi Paula, I thought I was a member of Southern Colonies, but I don't see a badge, so If not, I would like to join.
I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project. My ancestors were early arrivals to Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.
Hello, I am working on my family line and it traces back to early 1600 James town and Virginia Colonies in 1700's -1800's that were part of the migration to North Carolina, Alabama, Missippi, Tennesse, Arkansas, Texas. My interest is in certain families that were intermarried with Natives that were forced to collectively migrate south, Rolfe, Barnes, Gray, Moore, Martin, Vann, Southern, Weatherford, Burgess, Kidd, Tucker to name a few.
Hi Paula, I would really like to join the Southern Colonies Project as I am currently conducting family research for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution. Many of my ancestors helped settle Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia and fought during the American Revolution. Thanks in advance! - JK
Although I am very new to all this, I would very much like to join the southern colonies project  because I have just recently uncovered an entire line of my maternal grandfather’s ancestors that THE FAMILY WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT who lived and settled into these areas even before they became states.
Please add me to the project. I have many early ancestors in Virginia and North Carolina.
I would like to join, I have many ancestors from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, all the way down into Georgia.
Would appreciate being a member of the project considering the deep colonial roots we have in VA, NC, TN, KY, AR, AL.
I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project and receive my profile badge. I have all the research documents and county ledgers from many counties from Virginia to Georgia passed down in my family since 1952. I have a book of my family history for the sir name Bentley that begins with our 1st ancestors coming from England on the ship "Jacob" in 1624 landing in Virginia. It is ENORMOUS and has complete citing on all records. There are SAR/DAR numbers, Baker Roll and Dawes Roll numbers. If there is a Bentley in a family tree I probably have verified information for them..and willing to share. I am also part of the Carter project as a verified direct descendant. Although Carter is common the information I have through the project has been verified by DNA so I can help there too. Finally, we hold Tribal Indian Cards for Western Band Cherokee with cousins documented on Eastern Band rolls and have access to many online research tools as a documented tribal member. So, I believe I can possibly help the project get some things corrected.
I would like to join the us southern colonies project.  I am currently working on updating Thomas and Grace Doyle Arnold of Virginia using records accumulated during the activities of the Arnold Family Assn. of the South
Paula,

I would very much like to be a part of the Southern Projects group. My entire family is in the Southern Colonies, later states, from Virginia through the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi Territory and some into Louisiana. I am in the process of adding sources to the ancestors loaded from my Gedcom several years ago and will be adding more ancestors going back into the 1600's.
I would like to join the US Southern Colonies Project. I have ancestors in Augusta County, VA, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
Hi I would like to join the Southern Colonies project. One of my ancestors came over to Colonial Virginia in 1650 and settled in Westmoreland. My branch of the family stayed in the UK and moved to Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and the West Midlands. In Colonial Virginia the surname changed to Hore, Hord and Hoard. Their descendants moved to Middlesex, Essex, Caroline, Stafford, PWC., NC., Halifax, Charlotte, West Augusta, Kentucky etc. Paternal y-DNA has been confirmed with many descendants of the Hord family of Virginia. Mary Hord formerly Carber aka Dickinson profile is already part of the Southern Colonies project (Carber-5), she married Ambrose Hord grandson of John Hoare/Hore who came to Virginia in 1650.

I'd like to join the US Southern colonies project and add the badge to my profile. I'm interested in the Southern Colonies because of my Abercrombie connection as well as stories of my early Dowdey ancestors. Most of my ancestors show up in Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia

Would love to join the US Southern Colonies Project.  Most of my ancestors are from the whole area, the Carolina's, Virginia, Mass, Penn. etc.  Please allow me to be apart of this project.  I would learn so much about my ancestors. Sincerely, Joyce Noojin
Would anyone consider opening this up again?  I am direct lineage DAR 1812 CW and have roots from UK>VA Isle of Wight > NC>TN>AR  ancient settlers etc.  Massengill Cobb Stone Spradling Spink(s) Eddins Ozment   Best regards to all, Janet Masingill
I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project.  I am a descendant of Samuel Flake and I have further information that potentially shows he was not born in North Carolina but immigrated there in 1720.  Everywhere I look shows his birth is North Carolina, but no one can trace his father.  I believe that is because he wasn't born there.  He is probably related to Robert Flake, but I don't know exactly how.
This project is closed for the time being, it may be revitalized at a future date.  You might consider Southern Pioneers priject.
I would love to join the Southern Pioneers Project.  Most of my relates migrated South.  Thank You, Joyce
I would like to join this project as I have several ancestors who died in Jamestown
I am interested in joining.I show that I have ancestors in all of what was the southern colonies. Surnames Williams, Morgan, Davis and Hulsey.
I'd like to join the project. I have ancestors from many southern families, e.g., Gentry, Leathco, Lowe, Swinney, Day.
Hello Ms Paula,

When you decide to reopen this project, I would love to join the US Southern Colonies Project as both my husband and I have ancestors in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and other states.  I continue to seek resources and support in my quest.  Thank you for your consideration.  Always, Laura J Worsham

I would like to help with the Southern Colonies Project.  My Travis line connects with John Roxbury Johnson Sr and back to Alamo William Barret Travis

You have to get with the project leaders. If you have enough documentation, feel free to ask them.
I have a family history from this area.
Would love to be part of the US Southern Colonies Project.  Most of my family lives in the south, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.

I am trying to confirm some information on my family line.

The source for John Joseph Abercromibie (Abercrombie-166) shows his mother as a Katherine (Thomson) Abercrombie. However, you have Hannah (Pickard) Thomason (Pickard-211) listed as his mother.

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/30163828

This ties back in with you guys because John's dad is: James Abercrombie Sr. (Abercrombie-417). He is tagged southern_colonies, and his wife is listed as the Hannah - however, this doesn't line up with the source. If I follow the source that was listed for his son, it leads to his grave here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/92798056/james-alexander-abercrombie. Listing his wife as Katherine and also listing parents.

Find A Grave has two brothers called James Alexander, with similar dates but different wives.

It also says their father was the baronet.

Apparently the baronet did have two sons called James, but neither of them was the immigrant.

Next problem is to figure out the immigrant's life story.  Find A Grave says he was Attorney General until 1744 and then returned to England permanently.  Wikipedia thinks he was only Attorney General for a year.

Laurens didn't exist then.
I would like to join. I have family lineage from Black Rock, Union Co., South Carolina, Caswell Co/person Co., North Carolina, Charles Co., Virginia, Isle of Wight Co., VA, Surry Co., VA

I hope to be of help and learn new information along the way!

Thanks,

Meredith Miles Shalvey
Hi - I would really like to join this project when it reopens. One branch of my family made up a decent portion of the original Jamestown colony, and another was very involved in the settlement of the Maryland/DC area. Huge amount of intermarrying between families I am looking at, so I'm already knee deep in that research at present.

I am a trained project manager and would possibly, maybe be willing to take on a leadership role when I've been around WikiTree a little longer, dependent on how my job situation pans out.

Thanks!
I would like to join this project, the more I work on my family line the more amazing history I find. I have ancestors apparently dating back to the first pilgrims and so much more.
Check your relationship Finder. You will be amazed at who you are related to,namely me.
Good morning to you, cousin. If you need any help, let me know.
Good morning, cousin! One of the many reasons I love Wikitree :)
I would like to LEAVE this project - or at least no longer be a coordinator for Virginia . . . I've discovered I really don't have any connection to it, except that I happen to have lived in Virginia all my life.
I can remove the badge for you. You will likely get emails if you are on any space pages. Just remove yourself from those.
Paula,

I received this reply in an email from WikiTree . Was this intended for Robin Kabrich but mistakenly sent to me?

Thank you
Once you have posted under a g2g question, all replies will go to you. I apologize for any confusion.
Okay Paula, thank you!
I would like to join the US Colonies Project. My ancestors originally settled on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Paula,

I work heavily on profiles of.old Virginia families, some of which I manage. I would love to join the US Southern Colonies Project. Is it possible to join - I saw a note that the project may be closed? Thank you, Michelle
Hi Michelle,

Southern Colonies Project is dormant but I added you to the United States Project under which I suggest you look at the Virginia Project and Southern Pioneers.

Thanks!

Paula

On 6 Jun 2019, I was notified of a need to report in regarding activity for the project. I made the report and got an acknowledgment. Thus, though the project may be "dormant," it's actually active.

Perhaps the status of the project should be noted on the project page. If the dormant leader is no longer managing the project, that "leadership" linkage should be removed, or at least "past leader" status noted, should it not?

that might be a survey to reinstate the project or not. Who is still working and who isn't... or other stats tht can determine what "they" need to determine.
Thanks! I thought I had indicated that but apparently I did not. Yes, project coordinators have been contacting members of all projects to determine continued interest. Even though the project is not under leadership at the moment, I continue to lead the subprojects and keep up with requests to join the subprojects and google group. I appreciate your bringing this to my attention!
Hello:  So I have discovered I am related to John Clay (1587-1655) and I also have a few other ties to the Southern_Colonies.  I would like to join...

Thank you Linda
Hi I would like to join US Southern Colonies Project.  My maternal and paternal ancestors hail from Virginia and north and traveled to Kentucky to settle.  My husbands family are in Georgia, Alabama and Florida.  Thanks  Ann McDaniel

Happy New Year and Happy Friday! Please add me to the US Colonies Project. It would be an honor to be able to contribute.

If the project is closed, why does this question continue to appear?
Brenda, I'm working behind the scenes to try to revive this project.

Where are you seeing this post appear? If it's in the project page, that will change to a new thread once the project is revived.
It randomly shows up on my navigation page under G2G  discussion feed.
Kimberly, we're currently rethinking the US Southern Colonies project.  When we've figured it out, we'll have a new announcement.
Hello,

I would like to join this project. I have many, many ancestors in the Southern States of Colonial America (primarily Virginia & the Carolinas). My ancestors are from the Prater/Prather, Green/Greene, Crawford, Hallum, Meriwether, Hargis, Bates, Hubbard, Parks, Tubbs, Rucker, & Wasson, to name a few.

Amy, as the opening post states, The US Southern Colonies project is being re-organized; we will open a new thread when we've figured it all out.

I encourage you to check out the Virginia and North Carolina projects.

I would like to join the Southern Colonists Project
Yes I would. Jillaine let me know that it was currently being reorganized. Unsure when I should apply again & it'll be ready. Amy
When we're able to get to it, we will post a new announcement. It may take awhile. Other priorities and pandemics are hindering our progress.
In the meantime, consider joining the Virginia and/or Maryland projects.
I want to join this project?  What do I need to do?  My family is from Virginia 1700 s.  tnx  David W. Green

David, as the comments above indicate,

as the opening post states, The US Southern Colonies project is being re-organized; we will open a new thread when we've figured it all out.

In the meantime, I encourage you to check out the Virginia project.

I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project. I would love to be on the biography team.

LOL. You and me both!
Are you related to Frank Gill?
Which Frank Gill?  My dad is Frank Gill, and then there's the fabulous WikiTree Frank Gill who seems to know everything in the world.  So yes on the dad, no on the Fabulous.
I was referring to the Fabulous one.
I checked - no connection.  Rats!  I wanted at least one smart relative.
I may not be related to you. I am smart enough to find your family.

Hello Paula,

I have traced a family line back to Virginia, which has led me into researching a lot about the descendents of the William Moseley who arrived in Virginia in 1649, from Rotterdam, but born in England. I think this is the branch I will connect to, so backtracking from there, but even if I don't, what is the point of researching all this if I don't share the info with anyone else who may be interested? So I certified pre-1700 and that led me to your project. May I join? Would you kindly recommend any sub-projects you think I should look into collaborating on? Thank you.

Good morning to you, cousin. It appears that you are related to me through my McIntosh family.

Good Morning! I don't play with that relationship finder enough. That's fun. We are 15th cousins once removed with 438 common ancestors. laugh That is awesome!
