Looking for Great Grandfather Oscar Roper 4th marriage to Alice M Finney

My great grandfather Oscar Roper 4th marriage was to Alice M. Finney, according to http://law.justia.com/cases/illinois/supreme-court/1955/33633-5.html They married in 1944, she died in 1953, and for the life of me I can not find a marriage certificate. Suggestions? Is it possible this could have been a common law marriage and she took his name for propriety's sake? Thanks

I don't know for sure yet but this record might still be classified I not sure if marriage records have the same rules as Census Records but Census Records are I believe 72 years. Another option you might be able to do is contact the court in the county they got married and see what is necessary for you to obtain a copy of the Marriage Certificate.
