Hi fellow bunnies,

This is my first time doing the clean-a-thon and I was wondering how all this is done etc.  I also am on ancestry.com.  I was wondering if a profile has no indication of any family links if I was suppose to go to ancestry and look for some family links then see if any are here on Wikitree?

Taylor
by Taylor Worthington Gilchrist G2G6 Mach 9 (90.2k points)
Hi Taylor,  If a profile indicates an ancestry tree as a source it will be helpful if you can check those out.  Mary is also doing that.

I am communication with everyone right now via email because of the attachments.   I will be switching to this thread for future communications as I think this is where Eowyn would like us to post.

Eowyn if that is not correct please let us know.

I have a question for everyone.  In working the 901s if we see a private spouse or child we mark it as a false error private spouse or child.  Do we do the same with 902s are should we try to put in more info on those as well since they are open?
Yeah, once we get going it'd be great if we all communicated here.

As far as the 902s, if you have info and access to the spouse/child profile I'd definitely say add it while you are there.  That'd be great.

We need to finalize who is working on what...

What I have right now is this:

  • 1:Eowyn Langholf, Pre1500, Leader   901s
  • 2: Julie Ricketts, Pre1500                   901s
  • 3: Abby Glann, Pre1500                      901s
  • 4: Laura Bozzay, DataDoctor, Pre1500               902s   Leading the named PM errors
  • 5: Loretta (Leger) Corbin, DataDoctor                  902s  leading the DeCoursey / Orphan PM profiles
  • 6: Jillaine Smith, DataDoctor, Pre1500                902s were listed as her preference but she might be doing 901s  Jillaine can you let us know?
  • 7: Nancy Landers                                              902s
  • 8: Mary Richardson, Pre1500,access to Ancestry for trees    902s  has ancestry access so can check trees
  • 9: Paula Dea, DataDoctor, Pre1500                                      902s
  • 10: Carol Keeling, DataDoctor, Pre1500                                902s
  • 11: Taylor Worthing-Gilchrist                                                902s  has ancestry access so can check trees

Nancy, Mary, Paaula, Carol, and Taylor which do you prefer to work on  orphan / DeCoursey with Loretta.  There are some internet sources we found that might make this a bit faster... then again, maybe not.     Or the errors with PM names?

Once we figure out who is working on what we can split up the work.  Paula I know you like to work a name... so maybe you could do Surname DeCoursey if that is ok with Loretta.  I think there are over 500 of those in the 902 list.

I am going to start on PM listed profiles under 902.  I will start with

these 2 as they are both over 100 profiles long

Harris-1220
Pitts-33

Hi, I am working on the 901's. I am currently working on the PM Weaver-370.  I have noticed a few PM's in that have dozens of profiles which could be large families particularly when so many have the same last name.

Taylor
Hi Taylor,  Great job of figuring out how is related to who...

It looks like the PM has been active this month.  He did not as far as I can see respond to Loretta's status emails in March.  Hopefully he will respond to you.   I think Carol works with the Connectors.  So perhaps she has some idea of how best to proceed.   All of the 901s are locked so if you are not a sysops you can't get into them.  You might want to pass on doing 901s and jump over to 902s.   Eowyn, Julie, or Abby can get into those profiles so if you pass your info onto them they could perhaps work the Weaver PM line.   Also, if you can tell a time period for these folks, f they fall into the time period now where the profile should be open please not that so the sysops can open it for us.

Great job so far Taylor!
I don't have access to work on 901s. Just 902s.

Jillaine we have several people working on the orphans for 902 would you like to work on some of the ones with a listed PM?

I am going to start on PM listed profiles under 902.  I will start with

these 2 as they are both over 100 profiles long

Just post which group you would like to tackle.
If you have questions about how to work them just let us know.  There are several posts here that talk about that and if you go to the free space page Space:Team_Dust_Bunnies   there is a how to on that page.

Thanks for your help!
Those look like active PMs. Is there a reason we're not engaging them?
Some are.  Some have been contacted before with no response.
Some have not.  What I do is work the error and leave iinfo in the status and then if the PM has not been contacted a shoot them a private email with a blurb.  The blurb I use (and we can modify it to fit the situation) is:

You have entries that are being flagged for the 901 error report because they appear to be empty except for a name.  They appear to be unconnected people.  Many of these come from disconnected people in uploaded gedcom files.

Some reference a tree on Ancestry or some other site.  Because trees can be changed or removed, it is important to transfer any data into the WikiTree provided data fields.

Please enter a birth date or birth place so they no longer hit the report.  Please add any information you can that will not compromise privacy of the individual if still living.  After a period of time, the entry may be deleted by the system as being inactive and unconnected.

Thanks for any help you can give us!

To run the error report and see what is hitting your profile,  select your profile, then on the menu at the top of the page, select your WikiID  and then select error report from the drop down list.
PM Weaver has not responded to me from the 901's so I will switch to the 902's with a PM.  I will take PM-Alvis's orphaned profiles who has 61 or so.

Taylor
That should be fine as I do not see that surname in the list Loretta created.

Thanks!

Happy to work on the DeCoursey's with Loretta but there are only 3 with that as an actual surname, Xavier, Maddon and Elizabeth. Interestingly there is no Xavier DeCoursey on FMP or Familysearch but there is a Francis Xavier DeCoursey, no Maddon DeCoursey but there is a John Maddon Decoursey, they are both in the same area of Kentucky.

Update - this was an interesting chat about the DeCoursey ged com https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/277096/who-imported-124-decoursey-on-14-september-2010 and gives some of the other surnames we are likely to see in the 902s

Ales ran a report for the DeCoursey gedcom and profiles attached to it.

Loretta has it will divide it up for those working on those.

I ran a 902 report for that in text and over 500 hits came back just for that surname.  Loretta told me there are other surnames as well listed with the orphaned profiles on the first page of the standard error report.

Ales has been wonderful in getting us this comprehensive report.

I also have a PDF of a book one of my distant cousins put together for the descendants of Benjamin Courson. This family was contained in the DeCoursey GEDCOM. I've put parts of it back together, but you may find additional pieces floating around.

If you find anyone who appears to be part of this family, let me know, and I can look in the reference I have to see if there is additional information.

Sysop powers in the team,

just found this one in 902 - Balcarce-1 , his wife's a private record but it show's the dates for his wife are 1810 to 1875 , the pm's account is unlisted so doesn't show when she was last online but it looks like she hasn't been online since 2012. Can the wife's profile be opened by a sysop?
by Paula Dea G2G6 Mach 8 (89.7k points)
Paula -- I just opened the wife and added her bio back. It was blank.
Thanks Julie, please could you add this one to wikitree lock as is a living person after sourcing Zabel-101
All set, Paula. I took you off the Trusted List, too.

Thank you!!

Hello Everyone!

I just finished looking at the 902 error report and if it's okay I would like to work on the orphaned profiles in the report. I would be happy to work where I'm needed as well. Just let me know.
by Nancy Landers G2G6 Mach 1 (10.9k points)
Sure,

Ales ran a report for the DeCoursey gedcom and profiles attached to it.

Loretta has it will divide it up for those working on those.

I ran a 902 report for that in text and over 500 hits came back just for that surname.  Loretta told me there are other surnames as well listed with the orphaned profiles on the first page of the standard error report.

Ales has been wonderful in getting us this comprehensive report.
Okay, I'm really confused! I began looking at the profiles in the green section and found no clues whatsoever for the six or more I looked at. So I reviewed "What To Do" on the Team Dust Bunnies freespace page.

"If you see a pattern where there are a lot of of unconnected profiles from the same gedcom upload (see Changes History) these can be worked on by The Lost and Found Project. Put them all in a category for that specific gedcom and place that category under the Lost and Found Project....."

So do I categorize these profiles that way? The clue is that these profiles are from a gedcom upload.  I guess when I looked at the orphaned 902s and wanted to work on them I thought some of them had a clue or two. I don't mind putting in the effort but I would like to see some progress.

I will do some more searching and look at the rest of the 50 profiles assigned to me from the gedcom and hopefully I will find something. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I looked at the posted information regarding the DeCoursey Family and will review it again.
Hi Nancy, yes all of the ones on the google spreadsheet come from the same gedcom.  Loretta just sent out the 3 lines to code those with.

In addition to doing that scroll down to the bottom and see if you see the blurb about being connected to Kevin Bacon et al.  If so, then in the status area of the online error report, indicate that the profile is connected to the world tree.   If you do not see it, indicate it is not connected to the world tree.

Many of the profiles in 902 are a name only and not much more than that but there are some with connections to private spouse or child and if that is the case mark it as a false error and indicate private spouse or child and if it is or is not connected to the world tree.   Any changes you can make or any sources you can add is a bonus.

Thanks for helping with this.  We know these can be frustrating.  But every little bit helps..
For clarity:

1. Do categorize these profiles as a specific gedcom under the Lost and found Project as described by the Dust Bunnies freespace Page.

2. Add comment if connected with private spouse child etc.,

3. Only work on this gedcoms orphans?

Top of the morning to you Nancy!   I am doing non-orphans.   I am checking to see if the PM is active or not.  If active I am sending them an email or posting on the profile before adding categories... hoping to get the PM involved over the weekend to really clean up some of these.

I am commenting via status button on every profile I touch.

I have been working on Harris-1220  He last did something in the system in March of this year.  So he is active.  Hoping he will jump in and help with his profiles.  A lot of his are false errors as they are attached to private spouse or children.  Those that are not I am marking as not corrected.  I have finished about half of them.

I am heading for around a 4 hour nap.  Will be back in a little while...

Keep up the good work!  Go Dust Bunnies!

I started last night on the 902's that had ancestry sources listed on your spreadsheet.   (1 hit out of 10)

(the rest Ancestry.com told me the page had been removed.)

The one I found  I posted a note on the page for the PM  as it was Privacy GREEN.   Will someone that is a leader go through and open them?  Or can we ask Chris to open them?

Hello all,

Perhaps my brain does not work the same track Ales does.   Are we supposed to find sources for the lists or what..

I have done random spot checks  the 902's also have GREEN privacy.  With that we cannot even post a category on those.

by Mary Richardson G2G6 Mach 4 (45.9k points)
Mary I just checked the 19 pages of 902s and they are all set to open.

Are you sure you did not look at a 901?  Those are all green...

I had sent out both a 902 with PMs spreasheet and a 901 spreadsheet to you because of the ancestry tree capability you have.

The help page for 902 does have a green lock but the profiles are all open according to the error list icons.
I finished the ancestry searches..   Basically ZERO.   All  I looked up in Ancestry told me the tree did not exist currently.

I posted that on the page you sent.  (and it went away..  )  Last column. The one I found, I had to post on a note for the PM as it was Green

Will someone send me what they have completed on a 901 .(I have Loretta's google spread sheet, it works better..  But am spinning my wheels on what to do with it.  i.,e. 1) find sources or not

I just need a completed one for guidance. (not a spreadsheet)

mary
Mary unless you are a sysops you cannot do anything but mark a profile as non corrected and leave notes in the status field or mark it as false error and then list private spouse or child if that is why you have determined it is an error.  All 901s are locked (green) profiles.  So the only thing we can do is leave notes in the status field.

Other reasons a profile might be marked false is notes from a gedcom that are appearing in the bio field that might contain dates.

But a sysops has to open those and fix them...

Can I just ask for clarification of the procedure that you follow for false errors.

Firstly, if a 902 profile is already connected to the global tree via a private spouse or child then it is marked with the status false error, with a comment 'Connected to the global tree via private spouse/child'. Then make sure that it has the Unsourced category tag, is there anything else that should be done?

Secondly, if a 902 error is not connected to the global tree, but has a private spouse or child, you follow the same process, with a false error comment 'Has private spouse/child, but no connection to the global tree'. Again making sure it is tagged as Unsourced, but is there an unconnected tag that it should have as well? All the ones that I've been using are state/county or even country based, but in this instance I do not know where the person is from. And the unlinked tag should really only be used for profiles that are not connected to any other profiles. Would appreciate knowing which unconnected category tags (if any) should be used for these.

by Carol Keeling G2G6 Mach 8 (81.9k points)
Carol. from what I have seen, the 902s are primarily a name and nothing else.  A few have "private spouse or child" but I am not sure how we can tell if they are connected to the global tree.  How would you know that?  We cannot see the private spouse or child names only some dates.  So it is really hard to know who they are.

Sometimes you can find a tree with similar dates connected to the name you are searching for but does that mean they are connected to the global tree?

I have generally been marking them as false error private spouse or child.  If there is data with dates for the private spouse or child I will add something in that data range using before or after parameters for birth or death.  I figure something close is better than nothing.  I put a note in the bio that the dates were calculated by looking at private spouse or child data.

Most I have looked at had no sources.  Most have no hint of country.  And often names are fairly common where you query and find multiple possibilities.

Thank you for getting back to me Laura, I really want to be clear what I am expected to do with these. There are large number of these 902's connected to the global tree, you just scroll down to the bottom as normal and look: see: Jean Ramcharan. I started making a list in a spreadsheet this morning, as I thought it would be something that I'd be comfortable working on. I only went through a page and a half from the error report and found nearly 200. There are also a lot of profiles with private spouse that are unconnected, and it's these profiles that I feel we shouldn't lose track of. I just thought that we should have some way of flagging them to go back to later. (Sorry, I have my connectors hat on here!). Maybe if I just keep a personal record in a spreadsheet then I can refer back to them in the future.

Ok I get it, look to see if the tag line about being connected to Kevin Bacon et al is there = connected to the global tree

where https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Basham-82  does not have it and is not.

If you think that information is more helpful, then sure let's differentiate it.  Having worked on the 901s before this all we did was mark those false error and since they were locked, we did nothing else.  But that makes sense to say if they are or not because there could be a hint in that for the Connectors?  If so, then I say let's differentiate.

Oh and one more thing,  I have already done a spreadsheet that covers the first 3 pages of the 902 error report with listed PMs.  Loretta has the orphaned profiles covered with her group.

I sent out the spreadsheet with listed PMs the other day.  If you want to work on profiles with PMs I have sheet one sorted by PMs pulling from all 19 pages for any PM listed on pages 1 through 3 of the error report.

Sheet 2 was deleted, Sheet 3 shows how many errors each PM has.

I listed in an above post the ones with the most errors.  I was going to work on

Harris-1220
Pitts-33

If you would like to pick any of these

Managed by Atkinson-107: 73 errors.

Managed by McDougle-1: 67 errors.
Managed by Alvis-9: 61 errors.

the 902 errors are listed on the spreadsheet I sent out and there are columns where you can make notes.  Plus be sure to press status  when online working the errors and leave notes there for others.

Good Saturday morning!  Hope everyone has had a chance to get some rest and is either hard at work now or getting ready to tackle more dust bunnies!   Just checked the team scoreboard and we are in 2nd Place!

That is amazing considering how difficult the 901s and 902s are to work on with so little information generally contained in them...

By the way here is the link to where you can check our team progress

And if you want to check your individual progress http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTCATScores/Scores.htm?Type=7    You will notice our own Eowyn is leading the cleaning charge!

I know in the hangout Ales mentioned that we might experience slow server response.  I am seeing extremely slow response now.  I even logged out and back and cleared my cache.   It is just grinding away.  Been several minuets with several different attempts.  Anyone else having this issue now?  How long is too long?
