I have checked out Error 104 Too old.

1   Several of the profiles are Orphans, Unsourced and have not been edited for some time.

Is it an acceptable option to remove the Death Date and place a suitable notation in the Biography explaining the action taken.

2   For profiles with inactive PM the same response as proposed above.

3  Where the profile has an active PM a Public Comment could be added drawing their attention to the error and requesting them to review the Birth and Death Dates.

What would be acceptable?

Regards   Barry Malcolm

Hey guys!

As of right now, Team Australia is in 3rd place overall with 805 errors addressed.

J Manners is leading the pack with 438, followed by Coral Blackwell with 185.

Good job, everyone!

I have been trying clean up the missing gender records.... Easiest way to handle non-editable records was to put a public comment (so others no the attempt has been tried) - this also identifies records that have effectively been abandoned (because they already have comments from last year asking for the same change)...

BUT:

A) I ran into the anti-spam measures and could no longer post public messages... WikiTree advised sending private messages...

B) I ran into the anti-spam measures and cn no longer send private messages....

So all I can do is connect to a profile, observe that it is not editable, clink the "Not fixed option" and give an explanation. Counts +1 for the team but does noting to improve anything on WikiTree....

Given how many profiles are un-editable for me (> 90%), this has become a fairly pointless exercise.

Next time (if there is a next time), how about:

1) Give spring cleaners the ability (just during cleaning) to access any non-living profile (or any non-living profile older than a certain date).

2) Give cleaners an exemption from the anti-spam limits during the cleaning period.

Absent that, you will just get frustrated users who want to help but spend their entire time browsing uneditable profiles.
Ahhh... that is definitely something we should bring up with the Leaders.  I wonder if anyone else has had that problem?

As part of the Greeter and Mentor Projects, I do not have the limit on posting public messages, so I can take those if you like?  Just let me know where in the list you left off.

I am pretty new to Wikitrees, but thought I could have a go at helping out with this.  I have been reading all the messages I have received today and did a couple of test corrections to get a feel for the process.   Hopefully I have understood it and completed them correctly.

Bring on tomorrow afternoon.

Is anyone else having problems getting into the statuses at the moment.   Mine was working fine until a short time ago, and now it just keeps timing out????
by Coral Jones G2G1 (1.8k points)
I got it to work for a while, but is not working again.  I was going so well too.    HO HUM
I can't see no problem on my side except that there are a lot of requests and server is hardly managing them.
Yeah, it's been up and down for most of the evening.  Must be lots of people working hard on the Clean-a-Thon.
I'm having problems now too.
Yep, there is almost no idle time for our server. We never had so much traffic on DB_Errors project. I will try to limit extensive requests, so it will work smoother.
just before midnight in South Australia and very slow after adding Status
Regular time-out's here in Sydney, Australia today, so I haven't done as many as I'd have liked to :(
I have added 22 sources but can't see I have been credited with any.
Hi Lynlee - you have been credited with 21 in total - see

Sorry guys, I haven't been able to be as active as I like.  The weekend is always busy for me, and especially right before a holiday.  I'm sure lots of people will be taking Monday off (not me though! :p).

I believe Veronica has pre-1500 clearance.  Paging Veronica!  :)
Sorry, a bit slow in finding this page!

Done https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hinchcliff-15  - not sure how I update the status for this one?

Done - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Applebee-62  Again, how do we update the status?

I think you have to run the error report for that specific profile by going to the drop down menu (with the profile ID) and then Error Report.  From there, you can find the status button and update it.
Done - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Randall-2652  Status needs updating
Just tried it for Applebee-62 - seems to be loads of errors for that one! :/
Ok I think I have updated the bits I did, many of the errors are consequentials.
thanks for all that - maybe I need to get pre 1500 certified

Cheers roger

Is anyone else adding the {{Unsourced|Australia}} tags to the profiles we find without sources?  Working through the 851 errors, I'm seeing a LOT of those, and thinking it might be helpful come time for the next Source-a-Thon.  :)
by Vicky Majewski G2G6 Mach 9 (91.5k points)
I have been doing that on profiles that aren't mine.  I have been spending a lot of time fixing up other things on all my own error profiles!
yes since I spotted your message

I am still working through the errors that are coming up under my WIKI ID but quite a number of them aren't mine.  Like this one https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Coates-1845&errcode=noedit

Most I have been able to amend anyway and I know this profile is a family connection.

How is Wikitree identifying these to come up under my ID,?

What does the heading say at the top of the error report?  I wonder if maybe you're working on all the errors with your surname vs all the ones managed by you.  IIRC there was an extra step to get to the ones specifically on my watchlist.
could also be far distant relatives by marriage to your bloodline

This is the heading - Errors and warnings in profiles related to Coat-12 (06246436).

They do all seem to have a connection through connection finder.

I too had extended relations, not managed by me, showing up in my list when I ran a report for my tree. I'm unsure why that happens.
There are different reports you can generate - blood relations, connections, watchlist, etc.  It looks like it goes to blood relations by default, then you have to click on the option to get "Errors and warnings in profiles managed by (ID)".
If I am on default it's not blood relations, but they are connections by marriage.  How do I limit it just to my watchlist - can't see anything obvious?
I got this one this morning when I tried to do just blood relatives.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gee-947  I checked connection finder, no connection?  Not a biggie, just trying to understand how it works?

I have enjoyed doing these DB errors this weekend as it has given me a greater insight into how these reports help.  I have also cleaned up a lot of my profiles that I may not have looked at for ages so thats a good thing too, even though it slowed me down in the number of errors I corrected!

Are we still going?  Do we finish at 2pm today Sydney time?
by Veronica Williams G2G6 Pilot (215k points)
Yes that is the time - all the best everyone for a great effort
Yes, definitely!  Although it's going to be quite a busy day for me - going out to the parade later this morning, then the service, then lots of chores I've been putting off.  :-D  So not sure how much more I'll get done!  Will try to post an update before heading out.

Great job, everyone

Well I am feeling like I have achieved a lot, even though total numbers don't show it!  I wish I had recorded some stats at the beginning.

Over the weekend, I have managed to:

* Fix all errors associated with my bloodline and all profiles out to 17 generations, except for 2 that need significant rewrites of their biographies.

* Of the 7735 profiles associated somehow with my profile ID, still not sure how for all of them, there are still 525 errors to be corrected.  I have however cleaned up to Generation 9.  Hopefully next time I can finish.  One thing I did notice with these errors is that there are several 'key' PMs, who, had they been engaged this weekend might have helped remove many of these.

It's been a good exercise as I now understand a lot more about why those pesky red boxes appear, how to find errors directly for the profile you are on and how to source bulk lists to work on.  All things I didn't know before.  As Chris says, onward and upward!

Thanks Team Australia and Vicki for all your work over this long weekend!   If only I was now off to a game of two-up!
