Pimonte is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Naples in the Italian region Campania located about 30 km southeast of Naples. However from the surname it sounds more like french rather than Italian.

There is a town called Pimont in Italy and France. The name has different spelling throughout history.

There is an interesting website on this famous family: http://www.ancientfaces.com/research/surname/Pimont/pimont-family-history-and-family-tree

maybe you can find more there.

Thank you very much for providing the information about the ancientfaces webpage on the Pimont surname!  I also found the village of Pimont near Chanac les Mines, Correze, Limousin, France and it appears our name was spelled Pigmon for a short time around 1700.  All of the first names John(Jean), Leonarde, Leonard, Francois, Mason, Gaston seem to point to Gimel les Cascades area of Correze as the origins of the Pigman, Pigmon and Pygman families!

Additionally, Jean Francois Pimont bap.1704 St Pardoux de Gimel was born in village de Condailles, 19, France. I am trying to find the relationship with the Grenelles as well as Jean Pimond/Pimont's original records from the 1600's.
