I don't know if she was from S.C. or N.J. It seems she fell off the face of the earth about 1936. My dad, Gordon Horace Smith was born in 1931. Please help! She was 19 when my dad was born @ Mercer Hospital in Trenton N.J.

You might want to take the year your dad was born and subtract 19 from that.  That wouldl give you an approx. birth year for Rhoda.  You can sometimes work forward by working backwards.  If she was born in, for example, 1912, then go to the 1920 census and look for a 4 yrs. old Rhoda Anna Williams, or Rhoda or Anna. (Sometimes parents changed their minds about which name to call the child.)  That census might tell you which state was actually where her birthplace was.  Look for her in the 1940 census since she "fell off the earth" abt 1936.  She might be anywhere, but it's a place to start.  If she happens to be back in SC - maybe living with relatives - write me, and I will try to find the death certificate for you.  I hope this helps; it can be so frustrating!  Did she give any other info about herself on the birth certificate?  Did you look at 1930 where she may have already md. the father of your dad?  That census would also give her birthplace.  Write if I can help.  Dolores M.
