Nathaniel Merriman of New Haven and Wallingford, Connecticut, had a wife Joan. Jacobus Fam of Ancient New Haven and Torrey's New England marriages both call her Joan _____, but her profile calls her Joan Lines.

Does anyone know of a source for this?

Otherwise her LNAB should be unknown.

I checked the American Ancestors' database and came up with Nathaniel Merriman 1613/1694. Several interesting tidbits but no last name for Joan. Another good reason why FindAGrave is not a reliable source.

I looked for Abigail Lines mentioned above and this is what I found on American Ancestors' database:

"Southhold      Richard Terry and Abigale Lines were married the 22nd of May 1650."

Vital Records of New Haven, 1649-1850.(Online database: AmericanAncestors.org.New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2007), (Vital Records of New Haven, 1649-1850, Connecticut Society of the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America, Hartford, CT, 1917.)

Thank you Victoria, !!  I checked to see if Abigail's alleged father (Ralph) had any children or grandchildren named Joan - nope. But Ralph's daughter, Hannah Lines, married John Merriman, son of Nathaniel. I wonder if some misreading of a document led to this a mixed up conclusion.

~MY ANCESTOR~

JOAN LINES & NATHANIEL MERRIMAN were married in 1650 in Wallingford. She was probably his second wife.

"Ancestry and descendants of William Curtis of Marcellus, N.Y. : also some allied families, Sperry, Matteson, Worden..." "she is the dau. of Abigail (Olney) Lines dau. of William and widow of Jacob Lines, and her second husband is Capt. Nathaniel Merriman."

According to Connie Fullmer, FAG contributor, "I've also found that in "North American Families" that they refer to her as both Abigail and Joane. I think she went by her middle name Joane because they name a daughter Abigail and it caused less confusion if she went by Joane. So her full maiden and married names would be: Abigail Joane Olney Lines Merriman."

Thanks Frank. Abigail Olney is a fictitious person. No one had middle names in the 1600s and FAG isn't a very good source, especially if there's no tombstone.

I have a copy of that book in a PDF if interested:

"Ancestry and descendants of William Curtis of Marcellus, N.Y. : also some allied families, Sperry, Matteson, Worden..." "she is the dau. of Abigail (Olney) Lines dau. of William and widow of Jacob Lines, and her second husband is Capt. Nathaniel Merriman."

Thanks Charlotte the book is online also https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/005730177
