Is there a group that monitors privacy levels for minors?

Question

During the Clean-a-thon, I came across a large number of profiles for children born in the 2000s and 2010s that were visible. I thought that under a certain age they were suppose to be Unlisted. These profiles had either the orange or yellow lock badges, visible but not editable. Having children of my own, I was a bit horrified that these profiles are visible, pictures and detailed info included. I have no idea what these parents are thinking!

Is there a group on Wikitree that monitors the privacy level of these profiles? I mean these parents need to change the privacy levels asap. They have no idea if there are pedophiles on this site or who's looking at their kids info.

They should default to Unlisted if they're < 13 years old. Do you have any profile links I could look at?

   I see some of the privacy settings have been updated. However, I'm still seeing kids born 2010s that are visible. Just wondering what the status is.

I've changed most of these to Unlisted; however, there are a few people who have added birthdates to their member profiles that make it look like they're 1 or 2 years old.

Ok. The above profile were ones that were generating DBEs. There are probably more out there that aren't but I'm not sure how to find them.

 Unlisted

This is for profiles that you want to keep entirely hidden from everyone but the Trusted List. Unlisted names do not appear in search results, surname index pages, or automatic matches.

Unlisted is the default setting for children under 13. Please note that regardless of the Privacy Level, profiles of young children should only be used for placeholders and should not include Personally Identifiable Information.

Unlisted is not an option for non-living people, anyone born more than 100 years ago, or for profiles of active members. If you, as an active WikiTree member, do not want your name to appear anywhere click here for other suggestions.

 

At this current point I believe most likely the only ones who can change these profiles would be members on the trusted list for the profiles, profile managers, team members.

It says it's the default setting, the setting the computer program chooses until it is modified by the user. It doesn't say a parent is unable to choose a different setting.

That's correct perhaps there should be some collaboration or  possibly a suggest for a restriction on profiles that are for children under 13 that they cannot be changed from unlisted till after there 13th Birthday

I would agree! I found it very alarming that I was looking at profiles for kids that were 3 and 13 and everything inbetween. Obvious the parents changed them because I had already read the thing about the unlisted privacy level. I have no objection if the child is deceased, but living children should be protected!

I also saw profiles for people who were living.  When I put in a birth date the system automatically turned the profile to a red privacy level which is better than green in terms of what you can see.  I wonder if those profiles did not have birth dates or the PM changed them to open or green?

I was working on the 902s which are all in open status.  It was pretty scary.

Any suggestions as to who I should bring this concern to? I'd like to see something happen to protect the privacy of the children.
