I'm looking for the 1890 Census record for James Byrd and his family who was living and working on his parents' farm in Moody, Marion, South Carolina by 1900. If someone can find this document and point me in its direction I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

There is no 1890 census, I'm sorry to say. Most of the census schedules were destroyed or badly damaged by a fire in January,, 1921.

Ah that explains it. Thanks for letting me know. Did the fire only destroy the Census record for 1890 or were other records also destroyed?

Most of the 1890 US Census was destroyed. A small percent were salvaged. See Wikipedia article for details.

"...Most of the 1890 census materials were destroyed in a 1921 fire and fragments of the US census population schedule exist only for the states of Alabama, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, and Texas..."
