I am so excited to find this new collection added to Ancestry! This appears to cover a period where Poland was occupied by Russia, then Germany, though the records are all in German.

Here's the link:

My direct paternal line is from this area and I have actually found a number of Macklers in this database. I only have nearly 600 to go through! :)

Allison, have you checked for these records? I always wonder which comes first! So many people go to this site first.

This particular database isn't available on

However, it appears that different databases are available at the Family History Libraries as microfilm that might cover the same region and overlapping dates, though I have no idea if they have the same/similar records.

The original data for this collection is listed as from: Zivilstandsregister, 1874–1945. Digital images. Landesarchiv, Berlin, Deutschland.

I like to search both Ancestry and FamilySearch and usually will put the citations for both on my profiles when I can find a record in both locations. I think that really helps folks that don't have an Ancestry account.
Yes, Allison, great direction for anyone with hard to find records. Do you know if the records cover Jews? I have a Family History Library close by and also a State Archive. Both have genealogical sources. The LDS is always making efforts through providing their "free" services in those libraries. They are sincere and earnest.

I know I must try again for my Prussian ancestors and my Jewish ones.
