I have a triangulated match with 2 descendants of siblings of my 2nd great grandparents (MRCA is 3rd great grandparents). The tests are entered on the pages of the 2 descendants as well as on mine. Which ancestors can I mark confirmed by DNA? It's unknown which side of the ancestral couple passed the DNA on.

Gibson-11287  Kennedy-10803  (1)  MRCA

Gibson 11289 and spouse McCarthy-3173  (2) ;

Gibson-11286 and spouse Kennedy-10802  (2) ;

Gibson-11416 and spouse O'Reilly-636 (2);

:

:

:  + several more generations of couples to the DNA matched descendants at the bottom:

Ferracci-4, Doherty-1609, and McCarthy-3176 (DNA tests entered on these 3 profiles, with note about chromosome segment.)

Thanks in advance!

According to the DNA confirmation page:

Find segments measuring 7 cM or more that you share (i.e. overlap) with two or more people who are all distant cousins to each other.

Those who all match each other on the same segment form a triangulated group (TG). Using WikiTree's Relationship Finder, find the shared ancestral couple for that TG. The parent/child relationships in an ancestral line from each tester in the TG back to (but not including) the shared ancestral couple should be marked as "confirmed with DNA".

So assuming your match is 7 cM or longer and you have three people that are all distant cousins to each other (which you do, but you needed to check third link: https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=McCarthy-3176&person2_name=Doherty-1609 ) then each of the three going up to but not including the last link up to Benjamin Gibson and his wife from his children would be marked as DNA confirmed.

Hi  William, can you clarify what you mean by : "you needed to check third link?"

Thanks!

Between three people, there are three pairs of two of them.  You checked the relation for two of the pairs, I provided the third: https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=McCarthy-3176&person2_name=Doherty-1609 which shows they are third cousins once removed.

I see, thanks - yes they are all a triangulated group.
