Suggestion: Reflect Uncertain parent status in DNA Connections

It could be helpful to have an indicator on a profile's DNA Connections if there's an Uncertain parent along the connection between the profile and the tester. For example, take the case where the paper trail says that three men descend from the same paternal-line ancestor, Y-DNA testing says that one of the men has a different paternal-line ancestor from the other two, and it's not yet known exactly where the NPE happened. The person with the different Y-DNA would be understandably hesitant about breaking the paternal line when they don't know where the line should be broken, but until the line is disconnected, the tester will show as a possible Y-DNA match on profiles that they actually don't share Y-DNA with. If the unverified fathers were marked Uncertain and that information appeared on the DNA Connections, that'd make it clear that there's a possible issue with that line and that further testing is needed.

Hi Sharon,

That's a very good idea. I like that. Mark DNA connections as "uncertain" on any connected profiles beyond an uncertain mother or father.

You're right that we don't want members disconnecting uncertain relationships. The DNA connections are one of the primary reasons we have that uncertain status: so that possible connections can be investigated. YDNA tests can be directly compared.

Oh, if/when we do this, we could also mark DNA-confirmed connections!
That would be great!
Sharon, FYI, we spent time on this and couldn't find a way to make it work efficiently without significant coding changes. (For my reference: BT #738.)

We might do this someday, but in the meantime, the Relationship Finder icon that's next to each DNA test connection will have to suffice. That will show the relationship trail and whether the entire relationship is uncertain, certain, or confirmed with DNA.
