There seems to be an inferred relationship between the six Gardiner brothers of Baltimore (all of whom immigrated from Scotland in the 1820's) and Ireland . In Dr Isaac Henry Gardiner's obituary in the Baltimore Sun it was stated that Isaac Gardiner, Dr. Gardiner's grandfather and one of the six brothers, was a near relative to the Earl of Lovejoy in Western Ireland. Research has not uncovered an Earl of Lovejoy but there is a Viscount Mountjoy whose name was Luke Gardiner. He was, among other things,a prominent real estate developer in Dublin. Wikipedia details his life to some extent but his family ancestry is hazey at best. My cousin, Dr. James R. Gardiner, has written a well documented paper which delves into that possible lineage but the connection has, to my knowledge , not yet been made. Should anyone care to read it please let me know.
