Can someone please alphabetize the Tags list?

Question

It would be a lot simpler to find a tag that has already been created OR figure out what tags exist if they were alphabetized.  It really is not logical that they are listed according to popularity.  If one is looking for a particular tag, there is no way to find it except by reading the entire list.  Please Help!  See this thread for a previous conversation:  https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/388500/could-someone-alphabetize-the-tags-list?show=388905#c388905

It's a static list, not automatically updated.

Don't know if it's any use, as it's very incomplete.  The threshold is about 25 posts.  To go down to 10 would make it a much longer list, which would have different disadvantages.

That's pretty cool. Very useful for browsing.  Cemetery_challenge and copyright are two I haven't seen before.  It would be good if the main list was also alphabetized or sortable.  Surely our tech guys could easily set that up.

It's been on my to-do list to create a list of recommended tags on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tags or a linked help page. I think that's what's needed. The most popular tags may not be recommended (e.g. "van" and "de" are popular tags because people don't realize an underscore is required). All the surnames could be eliminated from a recommended tags list. I think it just needs some examples for how they should be done. Perhaps the same for locations.

Maybe someone else would like to create a draft of this?

There is a semi-complete set of recommended tags on the Project page. Not ideal, but a good start if you're looking for something in particular. You can find the project list by going to Find > Projects.

Chris, I know this is an old thread, but I think the question is still out there. What would it take to sort the tags alphabetically, rather than by popularity?

I just give up finding the tags I want, don't bother now, its so frustrating to go though hundreds  of tags to find the one you want that is not popular.
