What is a redirected user, which cannot be changed

Question

Found a family that might still have profiles for living people but no dates is given so the privacy level is open.

I adopted a profile and tried to edit the Last Name At Birth but when I try to save I get the error "XXXson-7 is a redirected user, which cannot be changed".

My question is what a redirected user is and why the profile can not be edited ??

Could you share the profiles in question so we can have a look kinda hard to answer without some research

Sounds like maybe you're using the ID of a merged profile
