FYI,

Memorial Day is fast approaching. I thought I'd share a lesson I recently learned.

Military medals, until modern times, were only awarded to top commanders and not really provided to recognize common soldiers, even for heroism or significant contributions in battle.

May God continue to bless this great nation and all our brave veterans.

We don't know them all ...but we owe them all!

Thanks so much, Russ! I agree, we owe them all. That's what the Military and War project is all about. Our mission is to honor as many of our veterans as we possibly can, lest we forget...

I will see if Keith can comment on how our medals are organized.

civil war medal is real but not awarded until 1905, rev war medal is a long after the fact commemorative medal from outside sources, not a military medal.

I was starting to add a page for each country military medals before we got put on hold...US is fairly complete, other countries not so much.   starting point is:

[[Category: Military Decorations]]
Thanks, Keith!

Yes this is what I was thinking of.  You can find the US medals here

Yes, this goes under the adage "Better late than never," for our government, eh?
