Simple explanation about how to add a source, please.

I just don't understand how it is to be done.  I put a source on the example and the wording is showing but it also says that the "This profile lacks source information. Please add sources that support the facts" -----so apparently the source isn't really there.

I have read the help pages and can't figure out exactly how and what to put in the Sources box.  I'm just getting started on Wikitree and need a little help.

thanks, Karen

Karen, after you add a source you need to manually delete the wording at the top of the biography section that states  "unsourced." You also need to remove the line that says "This profile lacks source information…" Those lines will not be removed automatically when you add a source to the profile.

Shirley,  thanks for the answer. I have deleted that now but I still get the black box on the profile page that says it is lacking sources.
There is still a line at the very top of the biography section that says [[Unsourced]]. You need to delete that line. Because of your privacy setting, I cannot delete it for you but I know it is there.
Thanks so much!  I can't believe that I missed that!
Easy to miss these little things when you're not familiar with it :)

OK - I'm going to actually do this as I record it, so that I can be clear. I'm adding a "child", so I've opened that new child window...

Filled in all the field data above. And went to the last 2 boxes.

Now for the Notes box, I like to put some general biographical notes to help me remember who I put in there, and how they are related. So, for example, I'm entering (in the Notes): Son of Henry Mitchell and Amanda Guyton. (hit enter 2x) Husband of Emma Jane Anderson

Then, I go to the Sources box. (and of course, my sources are off-line - grrr... ), well, in this case, I'll put the LDS URL for the profile: https://familysearch.org/tree/person/LT3M-Z36/details?parents=LT3M-8L7_LT3M-HQX

I then click the ADD button.

And no "Unsourced" there. I'm wondering if you don't put anything in the Notes box, then it also adds the "Unsourced" template?

Thanks so much!  I really appreciate you taking the time to go through this with me.  I think I understand now and will fill in the sources as I add profiles.  -- I hate to see genealogical work without sources!  Thanks again!
Scott - I think you'll find an answer in the discussion of what might change about sourcing a profile when it's created at this G2G discussion:
