How to categorize my father's service in WWII

+4 votes
I am learning about how to categorize profile pages but am stumped by my father's page and his military service in WWII.  He was on various ships, witnessed the atom bomb test on Bikini Island, was on a ship at Pearl Harbor, etc.

Any suggestions about which categories I should use?

we are trying to make military categories showing peacetime and wartime service, for instance

Peacetime: [[Category: USS Preble (DD-345 ), United States Navy]]

Wartime: [[Category: USS Preble (DD-345 ), United States Navy, World War II]]

Ships created so far can be found in [[Category: US Navy Ships]]  soon to be renamed [[Category: United States Navy Ships]]

some major battles already exist, such as [[Category: Pearl Harbor Attack]]   see more at [[Category: World War II]]

categories for medals can be found at [[Category: Military Decorations, United States of America]]

Thanks!  it is so difficult to try to drill down to find the correct category.  As I have more practice may it will become easier.  I really appreciate your time in helping me out!

In addition to categories you might consider the template

Template:Veteran Recognition

It makes a nice display at the top of a profile.
