Biography Builders May/June 2017: People born in the 1700s [closed]

This month's theme is people born in the 1700s. Anyone born between Jan 1, 1700 and Dec 31, 1799.

Biography Builders Goal: To make profiles as complete as possible with well-written biographies and sources. You should research as much as you can find on a person, writing the information onto the profiles to create as complete a life story as you can for that person. Sourcing should be full citations. This includes adding categories and links to events and people connected to that profile and citing all those additions. See the first month for examples of how to participate.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section.

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • One of the suggestions was siblings. I think this takes up real estate.
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (i.e. Disputed persons sections, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you own the copyright or they are in the public domain).
  • Categories/Projects.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page, linked below.

Thank you all of you great bio writers. It makes wikitree look good.

Pat Credit reached 100 total bios last month

T Counce had a total of 25 and gets to add the 10 profiles template.

Regardless of the particular Challenge, should we be adding the Cat Biography Builders to the profiles we do bio's of.
When we first started bio builders, we were creating categories, but it was a pain, so we stopped.
Thank you, Anne

Bob, If you want to track your participation in Biography Builders you can make a free-space page listing your achievements. Then you can add a research note to the profiles you do with a link to that page.
I like that idea Pat.
Now why didn't I think of that. Great idea, Pat. Thanks.
Anne and Bob,

Thanks! I just like free-space pages. They have so many uses and probably even more than I have even thought about. So there's plenty more ideas to think up to use.

I see your profile, is wearing a new pre-1500 badge. Way to go.

Anne, Thank you. Pre-1500 profiles are harder than I thought! It seems each source, if you can find them, has a different variation of their pedigrees. You end up looking at more than a profile but generations of families. I'v added my first free-space source:

A Genealogical History of the Family of Montgomery, Including the Montgomery Pedigree

which already has six profiles referencing it.

Don't know if I'll manage even one, but I'll see what I can do!

It's ok if you don't and super if you do.

<sigh> I'm just too all over the place, but I have improved a few from the gedcom import... can they count if they were on my watchlist?

While I appreciate the effort Liz (especially knowing how difficult those early ancestors are),  I don't think those three fit in this month's theme, which was born in the 1700's. However, Francis can count for the theme starting tomorrow. Fathers. Dot an i or cross a t and add him tomorrow.

I didn't realised this group or challenge existed until just now. As part of the Sourcerer's challenge, I am not satisfied with just adding a source and moving on, so I end up writing the biography with as many in-line sources and images as I can. eg. Sargent-2039 and Scrase-18 (I'm still having a few issues with in-line sources generating "too many characters" error messages - but getting there!)

I also find I end up creating and writing the biographies for their parents in the process of identifying more sources - so go round in circles!

I have only just started working on 1700s profiles and this one is in progress

1) Selmes-65 and his father

2) Selmes-66

3) Aylward-224

4) Owers-102

5) Dawson-5207

6) Sandwell-4

7) Tapsell-13

8) Smith-129149 One of my favourite ancestors! Only because I made it my mission to identify his "100 living descendants"! Not easy with the surname SMITH.

9) Philpott-797 one of my brickwalls

10) Sandwell-20

11) Rawlings-672

Nice going Michelle. I agree that I can't stop with one source and move on. Welcome to the bio builders.
How does anyone just add one resource? I have to add parents, children, siblings, cousins, and some friend of the family and the dog before I can move on. LOL...Glad to have you on the team Michelle!
Nice going Michelle, you hit 10 biographies in your first month. You may add the following to your profile

{{Biography Builders 10}}

thankyou! Are we starting anew today, as I just did this one for the sourcing sprint

Muston-51 previously unsourced, now fully sourced - defined - 6 children - with UK location template too!

lol...just realised this is from May/June not June/July

Yes, we are starting a new theme this month. I see you add Muston-51 to the June/July and found the new August Post.

There, I've cleaned up all but two (and they're still there for other reasons) of the b. 1700s profiles on my personal to do list.

Hi Chris, Welcome to Bio builders. Did you see the new theme for this month Fathers - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/408401/biography-builders-june-july-2017-fathers

You  added another one. That makes 10. You may add {{Biography Builders 10}} to your profile.

I worked on Phebe Scudder Maxwell Merrit, born 1767 and Isaac Maxwell, a revolutionary war veteran born in 1760. But I moved him to the next month as appropriate!

Bio Builders runs from the middle of the month to the middle of the month. The current theme is Fathers

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/408401/biography-builders-june-july-2017-fathers

I will, however, add you to the bio builders and include this profile. Thank you.
Got it, thanks!
