There is a marriage registration 006582-98 dated 1 Jun 1898 at Minden Ontario for James D Nesbitt (s/o James Nesbitt & Margreta Little) and Isabella Baine (d/o Duncan Baine and Rebecca Bell) given here: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maryc/halib98.htm

On a hunch I had a glance at ancestry.com's 1921 Census of Canada images for Minden twp., Victoria, Co., Ontario. (District 135 sub-district 30)

On page 12, line 19 through 24 we find widower James David Nesbitt, with children Albert Duncan, James David, Mina Salome, ? Isabella, and one other female whose name and relationship to the head of household is illegible to me.

So Isabella Bain died between Jan 1913 and Jun 1921.

Sidebar: the Dinnison (Dennison) household mentioned as a residence for an Albert Duncan Nesbitt in 1920 and the other boarder Edron L. McKee all carry surnames that are reflected in this Bain Genealogy, which includes Isabella Jemina Bain http://brydgesfamily.homestead.com/INDEX_BAIN_FAMILY.html

Thanks for the info and research effort. I know this took a bit of time and effort on your part.

We are aware of most if not all the facts and documents presented. The issue at hand is the location of Isabelle after the 18 months in Minnesota. She did not return with James David to Ontario, and family stories later tell of her returning to Minden and taking the oldest daughter Alice May b1902 and a young son b1913-14? not recorded in history with her. From there she is never heard from again. The family does not believe she died, as noted by my grandfather in the 1920 US Census, so we are on a search for further records that might provide clues on where she went from here. The "companion Anna Ellen Doolitle was a suppossed nanny, and I find records of her husband Jasper (canadian) and her in Winnipeg in 1920 returning to Minnesota from where they were from, later settling in Ohio. Isabella's oldest two remaining siblings, Albert Duncan and Violet, immigrated to the USA in 1917 and 1918 appropriately, settling in Erie PA area.

There is a record for an Isabelle Bain in Winnipeg dying in 1938, but the death record is inconclusive showing a birth year of 1902 and an age of 86, so we cannot draw a conclusion on the validity of this person as our Isabella.

The 1921 Canadian Census information is new (i had not realized the images were available), and shows Albert Duncan in Minden in 1921, when he had already immigrated to Erie, PA USA. The extra person I believe is Margaret, James David's mother who is shown as 73 in the census. But Alice May is not there (the oldest daughter)

For the person that died in 1938, I can easily imagine a sloppily written 36 being interpreted as 86, which would make a birth year of 1902 sensible. I am fairly sure that this is not the Isabelle Bain that married James D Nesbitt.

While it does not help with Isabella, and you may already have it, I thought I would add:

Violet B. I had associated with a Hugh [Hugo?] F. Charlesworth and believe was a resident of Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio (by 1940 in the suburb of Maple Heights), however I was did not spend much time on verifying that - This possible association to Cleveland would also make sense with a family of Albert Nesbitt (b. Canada), wife Olive and Children David and Charles (all born in PA) appearing in Cleveland in the 1930 Census. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X43F-1NR and again in Census 1940 (except Olive has divorced and left) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KW62-M8V

Also there is a record of a Mina Saloma Nesbitt crossing the border in 1928 with brother Albert and Sistery Mary (May?) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XPVF-D6G

My great grandmother, Isabel Bain (however you choose to spell it), was the woman married to James David Nesbitt.   I have a entire family photo, taken around 1907.

The statement of Mina and Mary crossing with my grandfather (Albert) is accurate based on the accounts told to me first hand.

My grandparents (Albert and Olive), father (Albert David Nesbitt) and uncle Charles were residents of Cleveland.  My grandparents were divorced with Olive residing mainly in Erie, Pa.  My uncle is buried alongside my father and grandfather in Midland, Mi.
fyi...along with Albert, Alice, and Violet, was the youngest boy....whom I believe was also named James David Nesbitt.  The family home still exists in Minden...including the church and cemetary.  I do not know the full history of my great grandmother, Isabel.  My father wrote her name as Isabel Bain.   Searches with Isabel as opposed to Isabella, may be useful.
