Trying to trace birthplace of Lily McLeod in Scotland.

Trying to trace birthplace fro Lily (or Lilly) A McLeod. She is ancestor on my wife's side. We know she came south and was captured in the 1881 census as a domestic servant in Yeardsley, Derbyshire and married John Lomas in Manchester a few years later. Her father on the marriage certificate was John McLeod. Family members have some oral records of her living in the Black Isle area north of Inverness (possibly Fortrose), but nothing concrete. Her age on death does not match up to the age she gave in the census, so date of birth could be anywhere between 1863 and 1870. We originally thought she was born in Stornaway, but this now looks doubtful. Help would be appreciated.

The parish noted on Frank's census post is Uig which is on the Isle of Lewis.

Lily's proper Christian name may have been Lillian or possibly even Lillias,

Mcleod a Stornaway, outer Hebrides surname in a big way!

Try this site and click on Scotland. It shows McLeod surname distribution in Scotland counties from 1841 when the clearances began up to 1901.
