Would like help researching my indian heritage, great grandmother Mollie Blankenship Coffman

Question

I would like some help looking for my indian heritage. my great grandmother Mollie Blankenship Coffman, history has spoke she was native american.. I had found once were she was raised on a reservation but i havent been able to find it again. and I did not write anything down at the time

Molli/Mary Coffman her mother's name was Permila Jane Blankenship and she married a Coffman.  any information would be wonderful.

Some Cherokee lived briefly in Missouri in the early 1800's, but all had moved south by 1815 after the New Madrid earthquake.  The Cherokee have never lived on a reservation.  The 'Northern Cherokee' link above is to a fake Indian group.  There are only three legitimate Cherokee tribes - The Cherokee Nation (in Oklahoma), the United Ketoowah Band (also in Oklahoma) and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (in North Carolina).  A good basic Cherokee history can be found in Robert Conley's book "The Cherokee Nation".

The Old Settler Roll will have her name or the name of her family head if she was Cherokee who moved before removal in 1837.  St. Francois County, especially Liberty, was an original settlement but as was pointed out above was virtually abandoned.  Very few families stayed.  Look for anything you can find in knoblick or liberty.  I will run some checks and send you what I can find.

I am unsure how the mortuary knew that.  And almost everyone has now passed.  But the story goes that my great grandmother Mollie Buffington Coffman was a full blood Cherokee.  I would like any help or ideas were to go from here you can offer.  thank you for responding.  My home email is dcoffmanmt@yahoo.com thank you in advance.  How did you see my question for help.  I am still very green with wikitree, so I apologize. lol

I can't remember who sent me this but I did find this;  1860 Census, St. Francois, Mo.  John B. Coffman - 36 years;  Missouri Coffman - 34;  Ellis C - 7 years;  James Q - 5; Mary Coffman -66  (Maiden Name) Braucht B. 1794 in Pennsylvania; Mennonite Vital Records Married to Daniel Coffman B. 1791 in Pennsylvania.

1870 Census St. Francois, Mo.  Ellis P Coffman -16 years James Q - 14 years; Robert D. Lee Coffman - 7 years ;  John B. -46 years; Missouri- 44 born 1826.

Daniel P Coffman was 1 year old in 1850;  John B was 26 years and Missouri was 24 years ;  child Lee Coffman born about 1849; He married Ludia Brown and I think she was from Missouri. I also found an Ellis Coffman that died in 1909 in Missouri, Ray county. But no real proof.  I will continue this but I do really need to do some other work. I saw your post and I thought I could help: I put in Mollie Blankenship Coffman in Google.com and came up with this:  Cherokee One Feather: The Oconaluftee Indian Village , Cherokee N.C. I don't know if this is your Mollie Coffman because there are several Mollie Coffman But it also said that her parents were born in Missouri, And Belle F Blankenship is Mollie's sister, maybe if you went thru Belle then you might find Mollie,  If you need more help then let me know, Nancy

I also know that there is a town named Ellis Missouri named after my Great Grandpa Ellis Coffman.  he was Mollie's husband.

This is the best answer, sorry I just found this.  I have been off computer for some time, but I am back at it.  This is what I am looking for and I have another name of a great great grandmother Missouri Belknap. She is I think Ellis Coffman's mother.  I have done so much searching on my great grandfather Ellis Coffman and cannot find a birth cert or death cert.  I did find a marriage cert. I am unsure if middle initial is a C or P, I believe he was born around 1853. I think his fathers name was John B Coffman.  can you help me

Thanks for the response but 8088721 is not coming up on gedmatch.

Usually gedmatch numbers are preceded by A for Ancestry, T for FTDNA, M for 23&Me H for My Heritage.....etc. followed by six numbers.
