One of our newer projects, the Denmark project co-ordinates input and develops profiles of people originating from the lands of Denmark.  If you have an interest in the history, culture and peoples of Denmark, from 1660 until modern times please give some thought to joining the project.

Please post an answer below and follow the instructions on the project page at Project Denmark.  We are currently building out or resources and category pages and our work list and if organisation is your expertise we could do with some help.

Hello, my maternal Grandparents, their parents, and so on, etc. are all from Denmark and I would love to join this project. Thank you!

Welcome H.  We are glad to have you.  Please add the tag Danish to the tags you follow on G2G and follow the instructions on the project page.

Hi, would love to join ya'll. Great granfather  (dads side )back to 1600's so far all from Denmark

Welcome Kelly.  We have some great resources linked to our space page Space:Project_Denmark that should help in building your family's profiles and biographies.

Hi all - I want to join! Grandma was born in Audubon, Iowa to two Danish immigrants and I want to find out more information about their experiences.
thank you so much :)
Amanda, please make your entry a separate answer to make sure it catches Doug's attention to award you the badge.

I look forward to having you with us on Project Denmark.  Some of the most satisfying experiences for me on this project have come from collaborative work on deciphering Danish records.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. ~ Amanda
I would like to join the Denmark project. I'm originally from the Faroe Islands but living in Denmark. A large part of my ancestors are from Denmark, Norway, Iceland and a few from Sweden
My father's maternal grandparents were both  immigrants to Pontiac, Illinois, USA from Bornholm, Denmark in 1888 and 1892.  I have now found over 300 ancestors from Bornholm dating back to the 1500's in some cases.  It appears my Danish lineage never left the island for over 300 years until the late 1800's.  I reinforced my knowledge of Bornholm with a visit there in 2016 and even met a 2nd cousin once removed.  I would like to join the Denmark project and work on additional sources to reinforce many of the pedigree sources I have used.  Thank you.
David,

Welcome to the project. I think you might need to do a separate answer so Doug sees it and gives you the badge.  It can be amazing how much information is available on our ancestors from Denmark, especially when the families stayed pretty much in one rural place.
Can I get some response on my comment from May?
Hi,

I am totally new to WikiTree still not sure how everything works but I learn it bit by bit :)

Also rather new to ancestry research as such but I already managed to put together a couple of great-great-grandparents etc. spread over Scandinavia mainly.

I'd love to join the Danish project - I grew up in Denmark and most of my ancestors are from Bornholm - some originally swedish, some again migrated to Norway and probably to US (have to research that yet).

I live now in Vienna, Austria as a translator from German to Danish so that might be useful from time to time too.
I have ancestors from the Faroe Islands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Schleswig!

I am interested as my father's family is Danish, though I don't speak or read much Danish. I'd like to learn how to properly format my existing profiles. My focus is primarily on the west coast of Denmark around Ringkøbing.
by Lee Anne Pedersen G2G2 (2.6k points)
Hi Lee Anne.  Thanks for volunteering for the project.  If you follow the links on the project page you will be able to connect up with Mary and she is likely the best person to get you started on the formatting.  Glad to have you on board.

This side are very useful to look for Danish ancestors

And very easy and it is free

You found church books

Civil marriage

And lots of other thing
by Susan Laursen G2G Astronaut (3.0m points)
Hi Susan.  Thanks for posting that tip.  It is a very comprehensive site.  For others, the search engine is structured into three languages; Danish, German and English, although, of course, the source material is in Danish.  The county includes a link page to the relevant county on wikipedia.  The age of the data varies depending on source material with some of the church books going back to the early to mid 17th C.
Hi Doug.

You are most welcome glad you like the side.

Please add me to this project.  My Danish lines are from the island of Langeland and the tinier island of Strynø in Svendborg Amt, and from several parishes on Sjælland, primarily in Holbæk Amt and Sorø Amt.
by Janis Douglass G2G6 (9.0k points)
Thanks Kevin, welcome to the project.  If you touch base with Mary I'm sure she could use your help in setting up those Parishes.

I have Danish roots on one side of my family - a great-grandfather in one branch and a great-great-grandmother from another branch emigrated from Denmark.

Would love to share and explore their lines further.

I would love to be in the project.  My paternal ancestors were Danish from the Aalborg, Thisted, Ringkoebing, and Hjoerring. Collateral lines I've researched were from Vejle and Viborg.

I would love to join the Denmark Project. I am half Danish from my father's side and my husband is half Danish from both of his parents.

I have been using the Danish Demographic Database http://ddd.dda.dk/ddd_en.htm, but recently my cousin Boye introduced me to Parish Registers (handwritten) at the Danish National Archives, https://www.sa.dk/en/services/records-registries/.
by Kris Shearer G2G6 Mach 1 (14.1k points)
Great, thanks for volunteering.  The National Archives are very comprehensive and a great lead for people in the project.

I definitely want to join in on this project! I'm currently waist-deep in sorting parishes so I can ensure my records are accurate! Just the idea of collaborating makes me feel so much more encouraged! :D
by Sarah Smith G2G2 (2.4k points)
Hi Sarah.  Thanks very much for putting your hand up, we can certainly do with help in many areas in the project.  Have a look at the project pages and drop a note to Mary to get some guidance on where to apply your skills.

Hello,  Very interested in Danish genealogy.  My mother is half Danish.  We have her lineage back to Thygge Hansen, (s/o Hans Eskildsen and Maren),  b. 1759 Norre Snede, Vejle and d. 1829 Maugstrup, Haderslev.  The family stayed in and around Haderslev (Southern Jutland) and ended up with the surname Smidt.  My grandfather, Hans "Henry" Smith was part of the first generation of his line to be born in America.

Hi Megan.  Thanks for your offer to help.  While the project threads are open, membership of the team and projects is restricted to members of Wikitree.  If this is of interest to you there are only a few steps required to join wikitree (https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin&type=signup).  Drop me a note back if I can be of further assistance.

Hi Lene, welcome to the project.  You skills in genealogy will be useful to the project.  You are relatively new to wikitree and you may need some time to gain an understanding of how wikitree works.  Drop me a note back if you are stuck and drop a note to Mary to introduce yourself and your area of research.

I am interested in Denmark as well as the other Scandinavian countries.  My interest stems from my Danish and Scandinavian ancestry.  However much of my Danish ancestry is influenced by German ancestry. Furthermore, I would like to become involved with the issue of Danish LNAB.
by Richard Paige G2G Crew (630 points)
Hi Richard, welcome to the project and thank you for volunteering.  I notice your interest in the LNAB discussion and you will have seen another note on the topic.

I also posted to the Norway project, but would like to join the Denmark Project too. My wife is 100% Norwegian (American Norwegian, that is) with trails to the 1500's in both Norway and Denmark in two separate family lines. (Both originate in Denmark,  from folks sent north to administrate law - there are two foged's, or baili's  in her family, plus two mayor's of Viborg. Her family emigrated from Karlsoy starting in the mid 1800's.  We are members of Gudbrandsdalaget and have a 220 page family book of her ancestors originally researched in Norway in the 1950's. I would like to enter the data I have into wikitree, and want to find as many primary sources as I can. I myself have 4% Viking DNA, and wikitree tells me I have 3 ancient Viking kings in my ancestry - but these come via their British Descendants. As I said above, y wife's family is  also Danish  with ancient royal and aristocratic connections.  Her family is mentioned in Sir Thomas Michell's report with respect to the battle of Kringen in 1612.  Thank you!
by David Clounch G2G2 (2.3k points)
Hi David.  Thanks for the help.  I noticed the question on the Norway project.  The general focus of the Denmark project is post 1660 but we can cover earlier years.  There might need to be a few tweaks made to accommodate variant placenames and the like.  Have a look and let me know.
