One of our newer projects, the Denmark project co-ordinates input and develops profiles of people originating from the lands of Denmark.  If you have an interest in the history, culture and peoples of Denmark, from 1660 until modern times please give some thought to joining the project.

Please post an answer below and follow the instructions on the project page at Project Denmark.  We are currently building out or resources and category pages and our work list and if organisation is your expertise we could do with some help.

Hello, my maternal Grandparents, their parents, and so on, etc. are all from Denmark and I would love to join this project. Thank you!

Welcome H.  We are glad to have you.  Please add the tag Danish to the tags you follow on G2G and follow the instructions on the project page.

Hi, would love to join ya'll. Great granfather  (dads side )back to 1600's so far all from Denmark

Welcome Kelly.  We have some great resources linked to our space page Space:Project_Denmark that should help in building your family's profiles and biographies.

Hi all - I want to join! Grandma was born in Audubon, Iowa to two Danish immigrants and I want to find out more information about their experiences.
thank you so much :)
Amanda, please make your entry a separate answer to make sure it catches Doug's attention to award you the badge.

I look forward to having you with us on Project Denmark.  Some of the most satisfying experiences for me on this project have come from collaborative work on deciphering Danish records.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. ~ Amanda
I would like to join the Denmark project. I'm originally from the Faroe Islands but living in Denmark. A large part of my ancestors are from Denmark, Norway, Iceland and a few from Sweden
My father's maternal grandparents were both  immigrants to Pontiac, Illinois, USA from Bornholm, Denmark in 1888 and 1892.  I have now found over 300 ancestors from Bornholm dating back to the 1500's in some cases.  It appears my Danish lineage never left the island for over 300 years until the late 1800's.  I reinforced my knowledge of Bornholm with a visit there in 2016 and even met a 2nd cousin once removed.  I would like to join the Denmark project and work on additional sources to reinforce many of the pedigree sources I have used.  Thank you.
David,

Welcome to the project. I think you might need to do a separate answer so Doug sees it and gives you the badge.  It can be amazing how much information is available on our ancestors from Denmark, especially when the families stayed pretty much in one rural place.
Can I get some response on my comment from May?
Hi,

I am totally new to WikiTree still not sure how everything works but I learn it bit by bit :)

Also rather new to ancestry research as such but I already managed to put together a couple of great-great-grandparents etc. spread over Scandinavia mainly.

I'd love to join the Danish project - I grew up in Denmark and most of my ancestors are from Bornholm - some originally swedish, some again migrated to Norway and probably to US (have to research that yet).

I live now in Vienna, Austria as a translator from German to Danish so that might be useful from time to time too.
I have ancestors from the Faroe Islands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Schleswig!

I am interested in joining and helping out on this project. My mother had three Danish grandparents and I have been able to trace them all to their places of birth and gone as far as I can on each line with church and census records. My full tree is on ancestry.com and I am slowly hoping to get everything over here. I don't speak Danish, but I am fairly conversant (for an American) with the Danish archives.

My Grandfather immigrated to Idaho from Denmark with his parents in about 1875.  I have a strong desire to get as much detailed ancestral information as possible.

Welcome Ole.  We are glad to have you.  Please add the tag Danish to the tags you follow on G2G and follow the instructions on the project page.

Also, check out our free space page for useful resources and especially our discussion drafts for categories and naming conventions.

We are particularly in need of Danes currently living in Denmark and native speakers to keep the foreign descendants among us, like me, on the correct path with our translations and to help us make sure our categorization choices and decisions on how to represent naming conventions make sense.

Please take a look at some of our recent posts and comment and vote.

Interested in learning more about the surname Mickelson and its roots in Denmark. I have encountered several spellings of this name, including Miekelson/sen.
by Sharon Ferguson G2G Crew (930 points)
If your roots are Danish, the name was probably Mikkelsen or Michelsen before emigration.

Welcome Sharon.  We are glad to have you.  Please add the tag Danish to the tags you follow on G2G and follow the instructions on the project page.

I cannot tell you how many times I've been asked, "so, does that mean you're Danish?"  And I have to grit my teeth and say that, even with all my genealogy experience and work, I still don't know.

Greetings from New Zealand

My 2nd great grandmother was from Tokkerup, Faxe, Praesto, Denmark.

I am looking forward to adding her ancestry dating back to 1600.

She is my proudest genealogical accomplishment :  )

So I would be proud to join this project.

Thank you

I would love to help! I'm in the process of adding original references to my many Danish ancestors, but hopefully I can still support this excellent project in the process.

Susan, you can help.  At present, I've stopped creating new category pages for the sogne (parishes) in Denmark pending some developments in the Categorization Project.  I've also gotten distracted from working on the spreadsheet with the information for the sogne.  But I need to get back to that.

The most important thing you can do on your own profiles is to get them categorized according to what sogne the records are found in.  In regards to that, please prompt me every now and then to get back to that and report on the progress.  I think I have collected all the data for sogne that were within the 1790-1970 Aabenraa  Amt, Aalborg Amt, Aarhus Amt and Bornholm Amt.  That should be a good enough sample to see if a bot can create these categories for us.  If not, we will post the spreadsheet and you can help by creating the necessary categories as you add sources to your profiles.

Meanwhile, we have two stickers you can use in the biography section.  See our supporting free space page.

We have also begun to develop guidelines for names and how to reflect all their parts in Wikitree's fields and biography.  As you add sources, check to see if your use of the name fields is consistent with these guidelines as it will help to avoid duplicate profiles.  Add name notes to the biographies where appropriate.

As you find situations not covered by the guidelines which could be reflected in different ways or could be confusing, bring them up for discussion and help us continue development of these guidelines.

I would love to join the Denmark project. Both of my maternal grandparents lines come from Denmark. In addition to that I am fairly competent at deciphering Danish records and have a pretty good mastery of using the Danish National Archives online database.

Thanks,

Amanda

I am interested in joining the project.  I confess to being quite new the organization of Wikitree, particularly in the citations of sources (I have a great deal of material on the Ancestry site-but I find the transfer of sources a bit intimidating.

My wife's heritage is Danish, and I have used the Danish Archive site to access church books and census data-I have some confidence about what I have discovered. Her family left the Copenhagen area (specifically Jaegerspris, near Fredrickssund) to Flensburg, immigrating to the US in 1882. Flensburg has a volatile history and the records from there are fuzzy.

I should say that our visit to Jaegerspris, where my wife's family were foresters for King Frederick VII was quite moving.  AND, we had the best ice cream in the world in the adjacent town.

I'm looking forward to improving my skill with Wikitree, and my knowledge of our family ancestry.
by Jack Meyer G2G Crew (350 points)
Hi Jack, great.  Welcome to the project.
Welcome Jack.  We can help you in learning about how to cite Danish sources on Wikitree.

I started out just like you with a little information on the Danish part of my husband's family and wound up coordinator of the project.  Although I initially read no Danish at all, I've found the many Danish resources very helpful.

Hello,

My Danish ancestry comes from my fathers side. I accidently met a cousin from Denmark and she will be coordinating the family (that stayed behind) with what I have here in the US sometime very soon. With verification, I will be adding a great deal of information to what I have.

Thank you
