If someone was born and raised in St. Regis Falls, NY back in the early 1900's, would that make them Native American?

Reason I'm asking is because I traced my family to there but I saw on google maps that St Regis and Hogansburg (sp) were the only two villages within the Indian reservation there. Thanks for any help.

Hello, have you tried the Dawes list?  Do you have names and dob?

Haven't found them on the Dawes- thought that was only for Cree, Choctaw and Cherokee? Last names are Besaw and Voudrin (various spellings)...dob: Jan. 11 1896 and November 1 1857. Thank you for replying so quickly!

You never ever know and I have learned that with genealogy, you NEVER assume.  You are most welcome.  Off to search for you again

Do you have first names and the dates you just added are for?

Try this page and enter St Regis and you get some names

thank you- I will try that
