I remarried my ex-husband, but it won't allow me to add that marriage to my profile. Any suggestions?

My husband and I divorced in the early 80s, and remarried in 1995. I've attempted adding this to my profile, but it only accepts the first marriage. I know I'm not the only one who has married their own ex! How can I add this info as a marriage? Thanks for any assistance you can render.

Hi Shari,

As you figured out, you can only enter one marriage for the same couple.

All we can recommend is that you explain it all in your biographies.

By the way, members have asked about this in the past, so I should give a fuller explanation for why this isn't a capability that we are likely to be adding in the future.

There are certainly cases where this would be beneficial, such as in Shari's situation here.

However, if we enable adding multiple marriages for the same two people, it would be harder to prevent duplicate marriages being created, especially during merges. We couldn't be certain that the marriage of A to B in record 1 was the same as the marriage of A to B in record 2. Members would have to merge marriages independently. That would be a fair amount of added complication for a small benefit.
I guess what I've done with the few of these I've run across is span the whole time and explain it in the bio.

So if the person was married from 1960-1970, divorced, and remarried in 1975-1985, then I've just put the years as 1960 - 1985, and shown in the bio the break. I'm sure there's other ways to do it, but this was the best I could come up with. I can't honestly recall having seen this more than twice before, so it is a rare situation.
Thanks for the answers and comments. I honestly didn't think it was that uncommon because I'm not the only "repeater" in my family!

Regarding entering the entire time span, that's not good for me because my husband remarried right after we divorced. He later divorced second wife and remarried me.
No it happens - we had these family friends when I was a kid - George Rutherferd and his wife, dang can not think of her name, they divorced and remarried at least eight times that I know of - fun couple
FWIW, my parents married three times and divorced twice. And my brother married the 2nd time to his current wife, divorced and married someone else, then divorced and remarried the 2nd wife (with whom he lived out his days--finally settling down). So, yes, very common in my family at least.

Linda, if you'll read the previous answers and comments, you'll see why its not possible.
