I need to find out the names of my great grandmother's parents, name Kaufmann, in Hessen, Germany

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. My great grandmother's name is Betty Kaufmann. She was born 3/12/1879. She was known as Betty Fuld after she married. Emigrated to the U.S. from Shanghai, that's another long story, in the 1940s.

Actually, I called the cemetary office and her exact death date is 11/5/1971. Does this help in the research I'm trying to do. Also she spelled her name Betti.

She married in Germany. Their residence was in Hessen.

I don't know the exact date of her death but it iwas in November, 1971. She is buried in Paramus, New Jersey.

Debbie:Betty being her given name,In German could be Bettina,Elizabeth Etc.That Betty,Immigration probably changed too Betty.

Nothing found,Being Jewish,All records were destroyed.during WW2 WW1.

Plus Hitler destroyed everything Jewish,I will keep looking.There are some

We've always known her as Betty. It is the name on her headstone. On one immigration paper, it says Bethi, but that may have been immigration. I found a birth record somewhere but not the actual birth certificate. I thought the Nazi's kept meticulous records.

My grandmother's name was Irma Fuld Adler. I'm not sure of her birthday but she passed away in 1969.

For my Uncle Gus Fuld, I don't have any dates. I am guessing 1970, because he too passed before my Oma.

Uncle Siegfried Fuld died some years later. I don't have dates. I'm really sorry.

I was only told that Opa died during World War I fighting for the Kaiser, lol.

I was contacted by a man in Holland,he found a silver bracelet in a old

WW2 foxhole,the inscription on bracelet gave his name and place'

in Canada.I put a add in A Military magazine,luckily his son and Grandson

Moritz Fuld was Jewish.  I have a little more information on Betty.  She had two nephews,  Carl and Willy on the Kaufmann side.  I don't have any dates on them,  but she must have had a brother or sister in order to have nephews.  Hope this helps.

There should be a birth record in Stuttgart (civil records), as this is given as her place of birth. Her last residence in Frankfurt should also show up in their civil registers. If not destroyed by the war, these records should be kept by the local "Standesamt", it's worth trying to contact them. There surely is additional information.

@ Wayne Morgan: For older records you often find baptism entries, However, this does not apply for civil records. 19th/20th century church records always show the date of birth as well.

Kauffrau means housewife.

Oma had quite an interesting journey to the U.S. She was captured by the Russians and sent to Siberia. Then she wound up on the Shanghai express, from Yokohoma, Japan she took a ship to Washington state.

Kauffrau would be saleswoman.
Rentnerin means that she was retired.

The spelling of the place is wrong. It is Niederrodenbach.
