Do you love challenges?

They're becoming a really excellent, integral, collaborative part of WikiTree which we are really excited about.

So much so, we're starting a committee to help us create, organize and run more challenges on WikiTree.

If you'd like to be a part of this, please respond.

Thank you!

I don't have time to take on anything more, but I have been mulling over what kind of a challenge would be appropriate for trying to reduce the number of profiles with no connections to anybody else at all. As of a few months ago, those profiles amounted to about 5/6 of our total unconnected profiles, so it seems to me that the key to reducing the number of unconnected profiles is cracking that nut. Perhaps a challenge to take part in the Lost and Found Project would help?

Greg - to me, these are the truly unconnected profiles. Perhaps other challenges that offer up profiles could select from some of the ged catgories you have for these lost profiles?
oops. the ged categories are for more than just the totally alone. Are there any categories for those?
I think finding the ones that at least have a private parent, spouse, or child would help reduce the overall number.   I seem to run about 50% of those when I do the 901s.

Granted, not all of the isolated leaves are from disconnected GEDCOMs. I know that a number of them are from when somebody put up a profile for a notable (which is a good thing), but then didn't bother to build out their family tree at all (which would also have been a good thing).

I'm thinking that there a probably also going to be isolated leaves from people joining WikiTree, poking around, and then never doing anything further, for whatever reason.

There could well be other reasons why there are so many isolated leaves on WikiTree, but since the Notables Project is working on the unconnected notables, and the Lost and Found Project is working on the disconnected GEDCOMs, those are two existing ways that people can help to reduce the huge number of isolated leaves. I think the Sourcerers Challenge and the Connectors Challenge have been terrific in terms of improving the accuracy of profiles on WikiTree, and getting more of them connected. So I think challenges addressing other issues (like the huge number of isolated leaves) could be good ways to help address those issues.

Yes, I would like to be involved. I have to be honest I have become  a bit sceptical about the emphasis in recent challenges on number/speed . I'd like to see challenges that measure the  quality of improvement  (Magnus!) as well.

Biography Builders does this-your only competition is yourself and the focus is building out the profile fully, not just single aspects. :-)

Would love to be able to join, but unfortunately I do not have the time. Not sure if I have the experience either. Still, I love working on wikitree, and will do whatever I can to improve it.

Hi Eowyn!

As one of the two coordinators of the Dutch Roots challenges, held about 6 times or more a year I would love to participate. Mabey our second coordinator will like to join too....... Not sure if this is meant for place/country/project-bound  challenges too or just for big events like "Do A Thon", but we re always asking anyone to join.  Many roots are lying out of The Netherlands anyway.

Just like to join to learn from eachother's experiences. Thank you!

What is the purpose of this committee? The various independent Project Challenges and SourceAthon are already a great success. Is there a need for coordination so that different Challenges are not held in the same period? We of the Dutch_roots Challenge team consult the Wikitree calendar. We should also take care not to organize too many Challenges because people get tired of it. It seems to me that by project Challenges organized, there is one representative for coordination.

I think things still in progress and I am looking very thrilled forward on some. Even it is just to share our calendars. Please let me know as we do not like to interfere with other challenges!

Would love to sign up for this one too. Sometimes I worry that I may be spreading myself too thin between Wikitree, work, family, and everything else. May have to start cutting back on work, family, and everything else!
