I need help researching my 3rd Great Grandfather, Joseph C Land, (b. 1852-1918) married to Susanah Mills (b.1853-1906). I Was told that he is part Native American. His parents and grandparents were live in Indian Territory, Spartanburg, North Carolina. I found info that he was Mormon. I need to know if he had multiple wives.

I searched the Dawes Roll and found him (I think) Same age but different wife. I also found his name on two different marriage Certs. One in Oklahoma 1902 married to Letha Mills, when he was 58-years-old. The second marriage cert was in 1911, in Manassa, Colorado to a woman, C.E. Brighton, both were age 58 years old at time of this marriage.

Please contact me if you have any information about Joseph C. Land.

Thanks,

Lynne

There is no 'Indian Territory' in North Carolina.  'Indian Territory' was the eastern half of what is now Oklahoma.  The Dawes Roll only includes Native Americans who were living in Indian Territory prior to 1896, so I think you have just found someone with the same name as your ancestor.
