Hello Fellow Treeers,

I m just adding the profile of Gideon de WIld(t), youngest son of Gilles de Wildt, from Rotterdam, raad en schepen te Haarlem, said to be burried in Amsterdam 1630 and Aefgen Claes de Gibland from Haarlem. I haven t checked out all children yet but I just came across their youngest son secondly as he was a famous dutch sailor under Tromp and de Ruijter.

Now searching for leads about his birth, the internet is full of this Gideon is born 1624-06-26 in Amsterdam. Even on Wikipedia. I am not able to search on births in Amsterdam before 1811. So I searched on baptisms in the indexes of Amsterdam with every possible initials of one or both parents, with or without first or last name at birth, patronyms etc, with and without initial of Gideon, with birth month and year and used all the "jokers" I have :D

I found his baptism in Haarlem left page 1624-07-02. I expect to find all baptisms of his other brothers and sisters in Haarlem, The Netherlands too but till I did I am not sure.

How big is the chance Gideon was born in Amsterdam but baptized in Haarlem? Is that possible?

I even doubt if Gilles died/was burried in Amsterdam. But that is possible. It is also said Aefgen was burried/passed 1625-04 in Amsterdam but I can not find evidence of that.

Thank you for reading and thinking with me.

The two cities are 16 miles or 26 kilometers apart.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haarlem

Haarlem had a population of 155,758 in 2017. It is a 15-minute train ride from Amsterdam, and many residents commute to the country's capital for work.

Thank you Frank!

Yes Frank, but in the year 1626 the population of Haarlem was about 30.000 :) And there were no trains then.......... :/ No buses...... not even cars........ :)  It was hot to have a second house "buiten/house out of the city" in Haarlem. By carriage......... mabey an hour or mabey a little more. The family here is one of the upper class families of the Golden Age/Century at the Netherlands. The father on the board of the city of Haarlem, living at Haarlem. Female didn' t work but just were representative, reading, making music, amusing husbands and family, pregnant and embroidering.

So how possible it is a (almost) 9 month pregnant woman would go to Amsterdam those days, shaking around in a carriage?

I am sorry I put you at the wrong track. I live almost half way Amsterdam and Haarlem. :)

Thank you lots for taking the time.

Kind regards from the Netherlands!

A.

P.S. I see you re a great one answering questions at G2G! How many more to be Nr.#1? :)

If father worked in Amsterdam ( raad ter admiraliteit te Amsterdam) and Haarlem (schepen of  Haarlem) it of course is possible and as you suggest already, they had more houses, so for example a buitenhuis in Haerlem and a house in Amsterdam, perhaps his wife stayed in Amsterdam during the pregnancy and they went to Haarlem after the childs birth to spend the summer in their buitenhuis and have he child (Gideon) baptized ?

No registrations of Births in Amsterdam, only baptisms, so I assume his place of Birth is based on the place of Birth mentioned in the marriage record ? He married Maria Smit (1624-1674)..

Perhaps this is his marriage record  ? 02-04-1644 - [de] Wilde, Gideon - Jans, Marritje - DTB 460, p.315 - Huwelijksintekeningen van de KERK. - OTR00044000163 (right page third entry)
