German Roots for HGF Schiller and ADI Sänger

Question

MY GreatGrandParents arrived in South Africa in the early 1900s from Germany. Specifically Kassel was mentioned - also my grandmother seemed to consider herself Prussian. The two Profiles are https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schiller-272 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/S%C3%A4nger-286 (Sänger-286).

I have not been able to find any records - Birth, Marriage, Parents or their three daughters (whose names are unsure as they chose to anglicise them) - so any and all help will be much appreciated.

I also know HGF Schiller died in Hamburg on 25 February 1925 but cannot find the record.

I am only able to access online sources as I live in the UK

It seems your are right about going back to Germany

That is interesting as it of course ties in with what is known but i did not have dates. I see it is after WWI and i knew he did not participate.

I wonder if if there is a way of finding any background - is there an online source i can regerence. Also does repatriation mean he was forced to leave? He did leave his three daughters behind - one of whom married the son of the Minister of Justice shortly after.

Anything i can add makes the profile richer for the greater family

That record description is from NAAIRS Repatriation could be voluntary. Depends on why he was in South Africa. You will have to get a copy from the archive.

Unfortunately having limited means and being unemployed - the fact even visiting an official site i  then get redirected to chargeable sites such as Ancestry for Government and State Public records really upsets me.

short of travelling in person which is impossible for me they seem to not provide a service. Contrast this with many countries such as the Netherlands which provide the information as a free service.

I was sure of the dates and place - I can also keep a reference to it but sadly cannot see it to find his parents, birthdate and possible origin.

Yes, unfortunately that is the reality for many German archives. Typically, though, as a direct descendant one can obtain a copy of the respective civil record from the Standesamt. But they do charge fees also.
