James Ferris, Cooper in New York?

Hi all,

I am looking for information on the parents of Christopher Boyd Ferris, who was born around 1815 in New York and died on April 17th, 1893. His father's business was at 124 Furman Street in Brooklyn, and his father lived at 79 Adams Street in Brooklyn, NY. I'm pretty sure his father's name was James and I know for sure both parents were born in Ireland, but I don't know their exact name or estimated year of birth. Both Christopher and his father were coopers.

Oh, and James Ferris had a business partner, Thomas Boyd, but that dissolved in 1805.

I tried Family Search and came up with nothing. I can't afford Ancestry.com at this time so I'm tearing my hair out. If anyone could help me get Christopher's parents' names and where they were born in Ireland, I'd be eternally grateful.

Do you have a reference for the possibility that his father's name was James?

You might take a look at fultonhistory.com for obituaries (or other articles) for Christopher, James and John Ferris. It appears in the 1868 Brooklyn city directory that James and John Ferris were coopers at the addresses you list. Whether the James is the father you seek or John's brother - unknown.

It may well be worth the time to learn the boolean search capability at fultonhistory, as "ferris" is a pretty frequent word.
