I have been trying to figure out the correct birth information for Col. Benjamin Simonds. I have found several conflicting sources, one of which is Wikipedia, and I don't know which is correct.

I have added a Research Notes section to the profile with the info I've found, if someone would please take a look.

The Book, Origins of Williamstown, by Arthur Latham Perry, has lots to say about Benjamin Simonds and includes his epitath which said he was born on 23 Feb 1726. It would seem that this is the correct date.

Thank you. That is an excellent resource. I even found some answers to other questions I had about the family of Anna (Collins) (Putnam) Simonds.
On Col. Benjamin Simonds' birth info, I think that, but itself, it doesn't offer conclusive evidence. It does, however, validate that his father was the Joseph Simonds who was one of the first settlers of Londonderry, NH. Other secondary sources cite that particular Joseph as traveling to Killingly, CT, and children born there to he and his wife Rachel. Therefore, I now believe that Wikipedia's birth date and location is the correct one. I can't account for the gravestone or the birth record from Williamstown, MA, unless maybe Williamstown wanted to claim a local hero as their own.
