I am trying to trace the roots of my grandfather, James Peter Barrett, who died in Forfar, Angus, Scotland in 1952.  I gather that he was of Irish decent, from County Cork, but I don't have any information as to when his family would have migrated to Scotland.

Would you know the year James Peter was born and or the name of his spouse? What year did he marry?
Frank,  I don't know his birthdate nor the precise year of his marriage.  At a guess it would have been around 1914/1915 & he married Florence May Suttie of Forfar.

Frank,  I checked for him at www.findagrave.com.  By entering just the last name and the country... you can pull up all the Barrett's listed anywhere in that country.  I usually check the box to include maiden names, because it will sometimes bring up the names of their spouse and children.  This is what I came up for James Barret of Scotland.  If you type in the memorial # with the above information it will take you right to:  Private James Barrett b. unknown d. Jun 11, 1941   The Find A Grave Memorial #57622904.

Sometimes they give the wrong dates on them.  I also checked for him in Ireland:  There is a James Barrett b. unknown  d. Nov 05, 1950 it gives his spouses name and the name of one child.  The Find A Grave Memorial #112134885.  I checked in Ireland, because sometimes the family will ship the person back to their homeland.  Hope this helps.  If you find any other information on him I will be happy to check again.  Or, if you need assistance locating someone else I will try my best to help.  Barbara Jean Beebe-655
