New missing links feature. What is this telling me?

There is no explanation for this when you click the 'missing links'

Is this just telling me the profiles are not connected to the global tree or is there some magic within the profiles shown?

One last question: does this mean that if 15 people are shown on the missing links page and I find one link to connect one profile to the big tree that the other 14 will then be connected to The big tree too?

Hello Richard

Could you possibly expand on this; perhaps give us a link as to where you're seeing this so we can help you better?  Thanks.

I go to my profile, click on MyWikiTree, click on Watchlist, click on unconnected.

All unconnected so listed have a link 'missing links'.

Click on it and you will see what I am talking about.
Thanks.  I looked at mine (I had not seen it before) and you are right: although these individuals are connected to parents/spouse/children etc, they are not connected to the 'big ole tree'.
That's good to know, Ros. Thank you

This might be the tool that was being discussed in another thread, to more easily find people who don't have spouses, parents, or children in WikiTree (i.e. people who it might be worth doing further research on to find the relative that makes a connection to the global tree).

Yes. This is Jamie Nelson's new tool for finding places where they may be missing connections.

See https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/408393/connectors-requesting-feedback-made-help-find-connections for a bit more information
Yes, but there is no explanation on how to use it.  Is there a benefit here?
I now understand!  There should be a link on the page to take one to a "how to use" page.

I already knew these people were unconnected.  This display gives hints as to where is the best place to look for that 'missing link'

If I find a link that connects one profile to the big tree does that mean all the others on the page will be connected to the big tree too ?

Thanks
I haven't gotten around to making the help page yet -- that was next on my to-do list! I'll probably do it tomorrow afternoon.

Basically the app does this:

Let's say it starts at me, Nelson-3486, and it defaults to 3 steps. It will look at me (step 0), my parents, siblings, children, and spouses (step 1), then all of step 1's parents, siblings, children, and spouses (step 2) and then all of step 2's parents, siblings, children, and spouses (step 3). Once it has gone the specified # of steps, it looks through all of the people it found and asks: Is this person missing a parent? A spouse? Children? and it displays everyone who is missing a link to a relationship. If you find all the relationships for a person in the list, the next time it runs they won't appear (unless they are unmarried -- there is no way for the app to check for that at this time).

It works whether you start from an unconnected person or a connected one. If you start from a connected person everyone in the list will already be connected, and if you start from an unconnected person everyone it finds will be unconnected.

If you manage to connect one person on the list, everyone else on the list will be connected. Edit: and also anyone who was hidden because they already had all their relationships linked, and people who are connected to these people but were further out than the # of specified steps.
Outstanding explanation. Your app is an asset as it kinda shortens my unconnected list into a mini-manageable chore.

Thank again.
