Non visible profiles. Marked private.

I have a strange problem, A series of profiles were entered  recently I guess by gedcom with the private lock on pre 150 / 100 the project manager unlocked many of  them to open on request. A number of others showed in the latest error report and these have now cleared (automatically.?) But if you look at Hoult-644 the parents are still marked private. These do not show up on the error check and having emailed the profile manager I don't think it shows up on his screen. As its a bit like Chinese Walls once the private is applied it is difficult to see what the problem is. This occurs on a number of related profiles both mother and father  or just mother or just father obviously I can't tell if it is the same problem. Can you have a look please.

As you've guessed, the profile manager can't see where the problems are when he's logged in. If you can give him a list of relationships for the profiles that show up as "private" for you (for example, the mother of Hoult-663), he ought to be able to find the profiles and fix the privacy settings.

Note that sometimes a profile was given an Open Privacy setting, but is Private because content was accidentally entered in the email field (which makes it look like the person is alive) or because the "still living" box was checked.

Yes that might solve it. I have actually found some of the mystery parent profiles Not of course the ones I wanted ;-) It had a minor formatting error and showed up in the errors list. . it was open and I was able to link it back to the child.no problem Nothing on the profile was wrong or likely to cause the privacy problem. It seems to be a gedcom import glitch.

I just emailed Tom and he replied that he was going to look at the profiles I think he will be wasting his time there is nothing wrong with the profiles or privacy setting. Here we go trusted list time ;-) I hadn't thought of that.
Hi John

Thanks for your help. It was "illuminating'' . With the trusted view there was absolutely zilch parents showing.. They only showed as existing on the public view but marked private they weren't they were open. The gedcom had imported them however. With the family information available I traced and linked these profile back and things returned to normal. Now all I have to do is merge the duplicates I formed earlier when the existing profiles did not show up as duplicates when I formed the new profiles from the census information I had found.  I suspect this may not be an isolated case in his gedcom import. But without trawling the whole gedcom to compare we will probably never know until things don't work again.
