There are only 2 things you can do:

  1. Copy the link and paste it into the address window of your browser
  2. Persuade the powers that be to change the link behavior in its html attributes.  There is a "target" attribute that specifies where the page will open when the link is clicked.

Note:  You can force a page to open in a new tab by using the CTRL key - hold it down while you click on a link.  Then, even if the link is programmed to open in the same browser tab, it will open in a new one instead.  You can't control the other direction, though.

These seem to be my choices.  I experimented a little.  So far I don't seem to have success staying in the same tab.  Do any of these look like options I should focus on or is what I want just not there?

I think my expertise may be out of date ... it looks like (some?) browsers may now offer ability to overrule the programmed settings, but I have never known that to be the case - I guess I am becoming a dinosaur, not keeping up with all the newest stuff.

After seeing your screenshot, Keith, I have no idea whether there are ways for you to control this, or whether they would be browser specific - sorry!

That may also be controlled by your own browser settings. For me on Firefox and Safari, the pages always open on the same tab unless I use the control to force a new tab.

I will check.  If that is what is going on I will feel quite silly for having asked.  Very well could be a true "duh" moment on my part :)

Thank yo Debi
