I can not untangle relationships that started with me, my father, and my grandfather all having the same first name

Question

I have tried so many ways to correct a relationship in my personal family and just can not do it. The problem probably originated because my name, my father's name, and my grandfather's name are all JOHN. I am Barlow-1001, My father is Barlow-1014, and my grandfather is suppose to be Barlow-1017, which is listed as John Barlow. I tried to make him Rev. John Barlow to distinquish him from Jack Barlow, (John Arnold Barlow) and from me, John Willis Barlow 

I have made changes that ended up with me being my brother,  my father, Jack, Barlow-1014 being the father of John Barlow-1017, John N Barlow-1017 reverts to Barlow-1014.  I  changed  John Barlow to Rev. John Barlow in order to have John, Jack, and Rev. John to help distinquish between them, but that didn't work. I also ended up with the Rev. John Barlow having several different spouses. 

I am willing to let you make the obvious corrections by date of birth order, show me how to untangle this mess, start over, or just quit the Barlow line for now. I would like to remain a volunteer and help others, but I can't even help myself.

I feel your pain, I have sometimes got myself totally lost in my own twigs.

As a start look at the other views like ancester charts or dependants or family groups. I cannot see your tree due to privacy settings, but I would be willing to help out unless someone better able to help turns up and offers.

Lol, I have that problem in my tree too!  Would it help to label them John Barlow I, John Barlow II, and John Barlow III?  You could take off the numbers after you've got them researched out and the right information for each of them.

You can use the edit tab to detach these incorrect relationships and then reattach them correctly.
