Who are the parents of Samuel Larsson?

+4 votes
Samuel Larsson, b. 31 March 1704 – d. 25 April 1770

Married to Brita Nilsdotter on 07 December 1729 and had 10 children while living in Blåsmark, Norrbotten, Sweden.

[Family Search has listed a Lars Nilsson b. 1773 and a Magdalena Andersdotter b. 1674 as parents, but the dates are all wrong.]

Also what was his occupation?

Seems there was a farm for him and his wife to take over after her parents. Farming seems to be the default occupation in the parish - it's just when they did something else that it is written out.

I think his birth note says: Samuel Larsson ifrån Blås??, Fad. Lars Nilsson, Mod. h. Malin - then it's witnesses.

Malin an Magdalena are interchangeable, so names may well be right and if dates are wrong they may well have been mixed up with another same-name couple. There weren't many names to go around ;-)

The first household record for Piteå rural parish covers 1720 to 1749. There are seven pages for Blåsmark, with seven numbered households, plus one page of soldiers' wives and their children.

The first household is headed by a Nils Larssson. There is a wife Margareta and six sons: Olof, Anders, Lars, Nils, Samuel and Per.
This may make sense if all their daughters died in infancy

There are ages for the people: Nils Larssson (53), wife Margareta (47) and six sons: Olof (21), Anders (18), Lars (17), Nils (12), Samuel (11) and Per (4).
These are not necessarily for 1720, nor necessarily all at the same time - although the age steps do make sense. Your Samuel would have been 11 in 1715 - so was the book started earlier than stated?  It may well be, the dating seems to be an estimate by later archivists. Or is this another family after all?

There is also a year for each person, which does not seem to be the birth year: Nils Larssson (53) -1697, wife Margareta (47) - 1702 and six sons: Olof (21) - 1727, Anders (18) - 1730 and 1744, Lars (17) - 1726, 1744, adm 1747, Nils (12) - 1736, Samuel (11) - 1734 and Per (4) - 1745.

OK, see! I just mixed up Lars Nilsson and Nils Larsson!

But I'm not finding Lars Nilsson or Samuel Larsson in Blåsmark in that book.

So Nils Larsson was the elder brother of Samuel. He was born in 1697, 28 March: Nils Larsson in Blåsmarck, fadren Lars Nilsson, modren h Malin.

Anyway, Lars Nilsson in Blåsmark and Malin Andersdotter from Svensbyn were married 4 Nov 1694. Lucky, because there's a gap in the marriage rcords from 1695 to 1727.

There is also a gap in the death records 1696 to 1727. In case his parents died early, which seems likely.
I have taken a look at the birth records around 1674, which would be a reasonable time for Samuel's parents to be born. Early birth records ar often not very informative, but this I haven's come across before: what is recorded is the name of the father and his identifying villaga + how much was paid for the christening. No names for the children.
