Sherri, thank you for your interest.  Please keep on trying.

No, what you wrote is wrong. You are reading what I, myself, put on aGeorgia Group sheet many years ago.  I was told that by an aunt, but  I can find NO proof of that at all; and if you can, please write back.

Also,  the answer is not Robert Led. and Mary McCune, as many researchers feel, (wish it was that simple)  the timing is perfect, but the children are wrong. Robert Led. did not have the three toddlers that are shown with Mary__ on 1850 Madison Co. census:  Joseph William Led (my grgrandf.)John (murdered 1879)Mary Jo(died typhus at 20).

Thank youSherri for your help.  I appreciate any clue you find.

I wonder why the marriage record has the maiden name of his wife as Scott rather than Smith, as the latter is in the WikiTree profile.

        Joseph W. Ledbetter

mentioned in the record of Joseph W. Ledbetter and Sarah E. Scott

        Name Joseph W. Ledbetter
        Spouse's Name Sarah E. Scott
        Event Date 31 Jul 1864
        Event Place Clarke,Georgia

There's a note on the profile. Scott was Sarah's stepfather
Smith is correct.  Her parents were Jackson Smith and Cynthia Edwards.

Jackson Smith died when Sarah Elizabeth was approx. 10 and her mother married Patrick Scott.   The family came to be known locally as Scotts, and were likely pretty illiterate..?..  The injured JWLed. begged time to come home from war to marry 7/31/1864.     Possibly Joseph William Ledbetter filled out the license and put Scott rather than Smith, forever confusing we descendants.   Thanks for your interest.

Thank you ALL for helping me try to find JWLed. father... He was not Robert Led and Mary McCune, though the time is right, the children are not.

        Jo Ledbetter, grgranddaughter
