I two have several, American Revolution Soldiers in my Genealogy.  These 2 would make me DAR eligible.  John B. Langston, and Major Samuel Morrow, Sr.

I also found a Revolutionary ancestor down a limb of my tree I had no idea existed. Two years ago I was able to use his info in order to become a member of the DAR, Lt. Tobias "Byus" Boykin. I am currently looking for more ancestors who participated. :-)

Hi, Char. Are you a member of WikiTree? If not, do consider joining so you can share your research with the community.

Is this John Langston your ancestor? If so, you could join WikiTree and add your ancestors to the point where they connect up with John's descendants who have already been added by other members.

I can't find an existing profile for Major Samuel Morrow, Sr., so you may be needed to get him represented here.

Ellen,

I am on Wiki # 19574.  I am also related to the Smiths from Spartanburg, SC. Peter and Ralph Smith Families.  Early Smith Families in the Colonies.

ps: My Grandmother was a Bearden.
Thanks for explaining. When you posted, you weren't logged in to Wikitree, so the rest of us couldn't identify your family tree.

I don't recall the particulars because I've only seen it once or twice, but I believe that there's a way to go back to posts you made when not logged in, and claim them as yours.

Although I have a number of ancestors who participated in the American Revolutionary War, one of my ancestors, my 3rd g grandfather, Daniel Gill, served in the English Army's 54th Regiment of Foot. Here are some of his activities during the war:

Muster Rolls, 54th Foot.

Dec 1776-June 1777.   Private Daniel Gill, Colonel's Company,       Entertained, 20 June 1777.  Roll: Rhode Island, 20 Oct 1778.

He was on the Roll: N. York Island 6 Sep 1779, then on the Roll: New Town Long Island, 25 April 1780.

Daniel was on the Roll: Paulus Hook, 10 July 1780, 2 Jan  1781 and on 07 July 1781. After that he was at Flushing Long Island, then Bedford Heights (Camp near there) , McGowens Pass (York Island), Staten Island through Roll: 9 Oct 1783. The war had ended on September 3, 1783.

The unit relocated to Canada to Fort Cumberland. Daniel remained with his unit until August of 1787 when he got into and altercation with an officer, after which time, he abruptly fled the area and settled in Kinderhook, New York. He started a family there and relocated first to Castleton, VT, then to Hadley, New York. He became a school master just across the Hudson River from Hadley at Luzerne, New York.

I'm unsure if I have ancestors who participated in the American Revolution. I have some who were around there, sure, like Amos Sargent. But, I have no way of knowing. Is there a way I can find out?

Dear Chris,

One way is to see if your family member is recognized as an American Revolution Patriot by either the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) or the Sons (SAR).   If so, you can lean on other people's research to see if it matches up with what you have found.

The DAR has an Amos Sargent as Patriot Ancestor #A100238.  He was born (1758) and died (1836) in Malden, Massachusetts and also served from there. His wife was Alice Buckman. Approved lines of descent go through two children.  You should be able to see this here, if you put in his name:

Good luck with your research! -NGP
Thanks. That post is old and since then I found FIVE New England Patriots. None of which are Tom Brady and Gronk. Man....

Amos is one of them. As are a few others. That was a really cool find. That site helped, but, it didn't have everyone. It didn't have the Smart who served for example. Found his record on FS.

Is there a Free Space were links to 1776 ancestors can be placed?  I realized that the task of decorating all the Cady profiles with a flag led me to others in the record who fought alongside them that should also be recognized.

Is there any collection of 1776 photos that can be used by everyone?

My fourth great grandfather, William Morrow (1772-1815)  married Mary Ann "Polly" Underdown. Her father, Stephen Underdown was in the Revolutionary War and I was able to join the DAR through him.

Prince Skiff was my 4th great grandfather who served in the war. He was born in 1745 or 1746 at Martha's Vineyard. He had four brothers who also served in the war.

Massachusetts soldiers and sailors of the revolutionary war: A ..., Volume 14 By Massachusetts. Office of the Secretary of State, Massachusetts.

Prince Skiff was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.  He first enlisted in Dukes County, MA, in Benjamin Smith's Company in 1776 as a private from June 1, 1776 to Sept. 1, 1776.  The company was stationed at Martha's Vineyard for defence of seacost; also, Corporal, same co.; service from Sept. 1, 1776 to Nov. 21, 1776; company stationed at Martha's Vineyard. In 1777 he moved to Williamsburg, MA where he enlisted in Samuel Fairfield's Company, June 1777. He held rank of Corporal and was engaged in the battles of Bennington and Saratoga.  He moved to Cambridge, N.Y. and then to Madison, where he died. Written information on Prince Skiff refers to him as a jovial man who liked children.  He and his wife, Jane Jones, had 5 daughters and three sons.

I have two with DAR numbers: John Lee A068634 and Charles Reno A095484. I have three others that I must find the state in which they enlisted because there are several men with the same name.
