Could we have a sortable table view for One Name Studies, please?

Question

The different options on surname index pages (table view, alpha view, sort by birthdate and so on) are WONDERFUL!

Would it be possible to do the same thing to One Name Studies category pages?  It would be so much easier to be able to sort - and to view in table format, which I prefer, as I like things with straight lines in them! ;o)

Hi Ros! I sorta understand what you're asking, but not quite. (What sort other than the current alpha one would be useful for https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:One_Name_Studies ?)  How to go about doing that, other than manually (EEK) I don't know (which is why I moved your question from Tree House to WikiTree Tech).

OK.  At the top of any surname index page, you have these options:
Quick links for members: table view | list view | alpha order | date order | error report | find matches | follow activity | genealogists | include current last name | limit to Watchlist | merging and matching | pending merges | project | orphaned | unconnected | unsourced | recent activity

I'm saying: wouldn't it be nice to have one or all of these options for ONS category pages, which at the moment look like this:

Stanton Name study category page NOT the main ONS category page.  The category page for each individual ONS (like the Haywood Name Study, the Stanton Name Study, etc.).

Ah! Gotcha! I was thinking globally (Category:One Name Studies) and you were talking locally - about a subcategory with people profiles in it.

Totally agree!

Still don't know what would be involved in doing it though.

I was wishing for something along these lines today as I got my first look at the Driggers category list. We're still in our infancy and I can already see the need. I can't imagine what some of the more populated studies must look like.

I can answer this, Ros, but you're not going to like my answer.

Standard category pages are just that: Category Pages.

Category pages are a particular type of page within the Wikimedia platform, which is what WikiTree is based on. Changing types of pages is not possible.

Let me look into a different type of solution, though, and see if we can come up with something else.

But you can do custom sorting on WikiTree+

In Category name replace spaces with underline and it works for any category..
