How do you change an Unknown Last Name at Birth to the correct Surname?

I have come across a few profiles with Unknown Last Name at Birth

Charlotte Teakle Born c1806 died  15 October 1894, Kent Town, South Australia, Australia

How do I change the Last Name at Birth without creating a duplicate profile?

A familysearch family tree isn't a source. You would need documentation then you contact the profile manager with your information. Only the PM can change the LNAB

The best thing to do is contact current profile manager, as they are the only ones who can change the LNAB. 

It is not recommended to create a duplicate profile.  Thanks!!

You have to contact the profile manager.  Only the PM can change a last name at birth.  The exception is an orphaned profile.  You can adopt it and then change the name yourself.  I would send a private message to the PM and also make a note on the profile with the info you have given above.

If you want to at least let others know what the last name should be, you can leave a note on the profile for the PM.  I would list my source (something other than an ancestry tree as so many of those are not correct)

Use them as a guide to hints to find actual primary records.

Hmm, "Unknown, possibly Evans" -- that's a LNAB that needs to be edited.

If there are no good sources to justify any specific last name, it should be renamed -- to just plain "Unknown". Ask the profile manager to do that. And if there are theories on possible names, do discuss those names -- and the theories -- in the text section of the profile.
