It's harder to be certain about William's mother Elizabeth's origins
(you will need to confirm her father's name from her marriage certificate).

She was probably either born in Windermere as daughter of Luke Sowerby (basketmaker)...

Thank you for your reply, I was wondering how the 21 Kidsons on here are related to William Kidson as I believe they are has they all come from Thirsk Yorkshire and are probably siblings of his parents and grandparents etc.

My great grandfather was also William Kidson of a farm very near Whitby. I have a certificate awarded to him, the details are as follows;

WK was examined and passed into the Fourth Standard 18th July 1882.

Signed John B Brodrick, at Sneaton (?) School

My mother was nee Phyllis Clarke, her mother was nee Mary Kidson, daughter of the hated WK.  He disowned her after she became pregnant whilst with the Land Army in Herefordshire. The story was that he owned a number of ploughing engines, that he did contract work with them. if we are talking about the same man, I will gladly send you the certificate, if you would like it. No charge. As a check, WK had a daughter Alice, my great aunt, who lived in York when married.
