How do I add birth dates into my GEDCompare file - the dates are already there, but they do not show up on my report!

+7 votes
I am at the stage where I have completed my GEDCompare analysis and I am ready to upload it into WikiTree. But a long list of names came up because there are no dates for these people. However, when I click on the "+" sign in front of their name, I see the GED code and their birthdates are all there on line 3. They all appear to be in the correct readable format, yet they do not appear on my GEDCompare report.

Please give me instructions on how to make these birth and death dates that they can be included in the upload.

George, could they be baptismal dates rather than birthdates?

Thank you for your comment. My problem is that some of the dates in my GEDCompare file are formatted like this "DDMTHYYYY," i.e., 20Aug1905 or 06Sep1936, etc.

Apparently WikiTree does not read that very common date format. I would like to be able to change the dates so they are readable without having to go back and change the source file.

I wish there were some easy way to do that.

Thanks again,

Hi, George --

WikiTree does accept the DD MMM YYYY format. I think the problem is the lack of spaces in the dates in your file. (see: Date Fields: Input Formats)

What software did you export your GEDCOM from? Is there an option to switch the date format there?

Another option is to import the GEDCOM into spreadsheet software and use a formula to manipulate the dates.
