A fruitless 2-year search for the parents of Daniel Murray led me to a reference on the Messner private Member Tree: 'Daniel (born John) Murray, 1680-Scotland, but several requests for info from the profile manager remain unanswered

If you have come across John in your travels, I would be most grateful for any information about him, particularly his ancestry

Many thanks

Good morning, Frank

This is the most wonderful news!!!    Daniel was the great grandfather of 1820 Settler, James Murray;    we have extensive records of the family since arrival in South Africa, but no-one had sucessfully traced his ancestry back to Scotland, so I thought I would have a try.    I managed only 3 generations before reaching a dead-end with Daniel

Mow, thanks to your answer, we have direct lineage to the Murrays of Tullibardine,  then to Freskin (1107), the Flemish Counts  and beyond

Has John (Daniel) emerged in your previous research, or do you have a hot-line to the Messner Tree manager?    Also, what is the significance of the codes in your second reply?

I'm pushing my luck here, but do you have any idea as to why he changed his name?

Thank you once again, Frank;    we are deeply indebted to you!

Kind regards

Brian Murray
