Is it ok to leave notes?

+13 votes
There are times when I am researching information about one person and I find floods of info about a group of other people. If it is as simple as adding to their bio I take the time to do it. I even end up adding (and correcting) many findagrave links as sources. But when I'm trying to fix 1 person and find spouses, children, etc on another person I leave notes in the bio. Is this good to do in case I forget about things later?

The comment box on each profile is also handy for this type of information. (Especially for active profile managers).
I agree with Vincent. It is frustrating for me, when I am working on a profile and someone comes in behind and pastes a bunch of stuff. If you put it in the comments section, they can look at it, check it out and format it with the rest of the information.

If it is a member that has not been active in a long time, that is another story. I think it is curtesy to assume an active manager is working on their profiles.

You can add a heading in the bio section below biography and above sources for notes. Like so: == Research Notes ==

Just put all your notes for the person there. It can be very helpful.

That's what I do, too, when I find information about people close to the track I'm working on, that I don't have the time for creating yet (because I don't want to get off the track): a ==Research notes== section in the closest relative that is already in the tree.

How much I put there varies, sometimes just a name and a clue to the sources, so I know where to find it all again.
A notable one I hit was an article about a man and his family. It described all his siblings and their spouses. Of course almost non of the siblings HAD spouses in wikitree so I copied the article in and made bold the part referencing the person I put it in. Too much to do, and to many places to get info. lol  I'm just trying to get rid of my errors and warnings for relatives where I can.
