Mary Hannah Dewberry b. 1762 as recorded in Charles Parish, York, Va is said to have married a William Bennett in 1779. Her parents were actually documented as living in Elizabeth City. The marriage date has no sources in the book Dewberrys of America. Her father died in 1779 yet no indication of this marriage. I have a William Bennett who was in the Virginia Navy as a Master Mariner during the American Revolution. Based on accounts of the Liberty having a battle with the Fortunatus off of Hampton, VA my William was probably residing near Mill Creek. The account goes on to say James Barron rounded up a crew from Hampton. William's DAR records state he served on the Liberty. My William seems to have been born 1744 in Accomack not 1759 as stated in the Dewberry book. Need any help or opinions you can provide.
