I was able to clean up a Pre-1500 Cleanup of 811 error using biography cleaner even though I am not Pre-1500 certified.

Question

I added the profile ID to the bio formatter link http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTBioEdit/BioFormater.htm?WikiTreeID=Hjalmthersson-2  and it cleaned up the biography.  I made a few other standard removal of items of Ancestry.com tree notations which are not actual sources, and hit the "Correct" button.  It saved the changes I made.  I then tried to go back and change something else in the profile and then when I hit the EDIT button, I got the PRE-1500 certification message since I'm not certified.

Karen, even if you accidentally removed information that should have not been, it is fixable.  It will be in the changes log and can be restored.  No worries :-)

HUMMMM....I will let the technical folks provide an answer.   But, I do want to say that I am concerned about the "cleaner" use for Pre-1500, or any unsourced profile, as it erases clues that may help at a later date.

Specifically, knowing that part of the source was records for another person, is important for tying the family and people together.  (Hjordis Eylimasdatter)  Also, knowing that the tree originally existed on Ancestry.com is always a clue.   I think this is the first time I have seen the "cleaner" in action, and I do have concerns.

Thanks as always, now, I am really concerned that a Pre-1500 profile can be cleaned with the cleaner....and a non-Pre-1500 badged person can remove things from the profile using the cleaner....

I agree Aleš.  Is there anyway to set the Bioformatter so it can only be used on Pre-1700 profiles or Pre-1500 profiles if a person is certified?  Just anyone being able to use it on those profiles scares me quite a bit.

A major feature of WikiTree is collaboration -- now in our byline, Where genealogists collaborate.  Now, it is clear that the profile in question needed attention, and with the bio-cleaner it got attention -- but where was the collaboration?  A profile that used to have very weak and inadequate sources now has no sources at all.  You have to back into changes to determine where the current information came from.

Sometimes on a human to human basis, I don't collaborate because (1) I'm in a hurry, (2) I don't think it will matter to the profile managers, and (3) if I put it off it will never get done.  Machines actually can be stronger here.

The machine can send a note to the profile managers, "Hi, I'm your friendly bio-cleaner.  I will come and clean this bio of gedcom debris on (date two weeks away) unless you tell me not to.  If you don't want me to, just respond to this email with "don't".  If you accept my help, you don't need to do anything."  And the bio cleaner will come back in two weeks and do it.  I'm confident that kind of programming can be easily set up.

I agree, and could the bio cleaner please be quickly set up so that it can't be used on pre-1500 and even pre-1700 profiles, before it can be fine-tuned as Emma suggests?

As another note on this particular profile, all the ancestry.com links that I removed were dead links. I have a paid Ancestry.com account. I was planning on searching for real source information on this profile at a later date, then found out that I was blocked from further edits.  If I did any damage to this profile, I apologize.

The problem is not in bioCleaner. It is in MergeEdit. I notified Chris about it. If the fix wount be quick, I will disable the feature.

No damage done.   Just making sure that everyone knows that even if the links are broken, it is just a "clue" to know that the original data came from Ancestry.com when there are no "other" sources on a profile.   I usually just a source that says, Ancestry.com family trees.

Doesn't work now. Tried it with Bla Blue-1 and then Smør-38 in case it was the underscore.
