When did Mary (Hinckley) Robbins die? (after 1662?)

Question

The only information I can find on Mary Hinckley is the date and place of her 1631 christening in Tenterden, Kent, England.  She was married to Nathaniel Robbins about 1652 (certainly not 1641 as sometimes claimed), and there is only one known child (John Robbins).

However, I have been unable to figure out when Mary or her husband died.  She is usually said to have died "after 1662", but I cannot find any source or significance for 1662 unless Nathaniel would have died or made a will in that year.  But there is nothing to show when Nathaniel Robbins died (or really anything about him at all).  Often said to have died in 1667 in Harwich, Massachusetts, but the only sources are Ancestry trees quoting other Ancestry trees.  I cannot find out anything about him (after having adopted his orphaned profile).  No known relationship with the Nathaniel Robbins of Cambridge.

P.S.  I just found the significance of 1662.  Her father apparently names her in his 1662 will.  But that doesn't tell us when she died.

You are not alone...

Mary Robbins exists. See her father's profile for the information on her that comes from Anderson's Great Migration Series. That's it. Obviously he knows nothing about Nicholas Robbins. Or another husband that he wants to commit to.

Torrey's New England Marriages knows nothing about a Nicholas Robbins marrying anyone, let alone Mary Hinckley. The only Mary Hinckley mentioned is a questionable marriage to John Weyburn about 1671.

The son John Robbins, got his own book. The Robbins Family of Cape Cod (1917), only it clearly states no record of birth or death.

It looks as though Nathaniel may be total internet fiction.

When did Mary Hinckley die? Without a positive ID on her husband, we will never know. After the date of her father's will is about as close as we're going to get.

I would spend a little more time checking for parents of John Robbins, then I think the best course to take is disconnect child John from both parents (with appropriate sourcing on his profile). Disconnect Nathaniel and Mary Hinckley, mentioning on her profile that some ancestry trees have this relationship. Then merge away Nathaniel.

       I have just proposed in a separate thread that Mary Hinckley may have actually been the Mary who married Daniel Stewart of Barnstable (later of Edgartown).  This is based mainly on Mary's nephew Benjamin Smith (also of Barnstable and later Edgartown) being named executor of John Stewart's estate.

Hi Anne,

      The Mary Hinckley (b. 1644) who married John Weyborn was a daughter of Governor Thomas Hinckley (Mary Hinckley's brother).  So that is a different Mary Hinckley.  The more I dig, the more I think that Samuel's daughter Mary Hinckley was married to Daniel Stewart (mentioned in the other G2G thread).
